Obama is winning the support of the top politicians in Puerto Rico
Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 12:55 AM by Katzenkavalier
He's got the top Democratic figure in the Popular Democratic Party, Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila (yes, a corrupt man but that's Puerto Rican politics for you) and his delegation in the House and Senate (about 30 congressmen in total), the Vice-President and candidate for Resident Comissioner from the New Progressive Party, Pedro Pierluisi, the President of the Party of Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico Rogelio Martinez, the daughter of the founder of the Popular Democratic Party, Victoria Muñoz Mendoza...

I'm telling you- Hillary Clinton is not realizing it, but Democrats in Puerto Rico are moving towards Obama in a big way. The fact that two of the top figures of the two biggest parties in PR are supporting Barack should tell you that she might be in for the biggest surprise of the campaign season.

If the trend continues, Obama will win PR.

Update: Also supporting Obama are Alfredo Salazar, the man that was supposed to be Vila's running mate in November (Vila will not run because of the corruption scandal), Alejandro Garcia Padilla (the man most people think will run for Governor for the Popular Democratic Party in November) and Eduardo Bhatia, chief of the Office of Puerto Rican Affairs in Washington DC.

Simply, Puerto Rico is Obama Country!

4. He says he's not stepping down. What we know right now is that we won't be running again.

5. I've said numerous times

that Carribean Hispanics aren't the same as Mexican/Central American Hispanics.

Puerto Ricans are very racially mixed. I don't even know if Obama would be considered black in Puerto Rico. With his mixed ancestry, he looks like a lot of Puerto Ricans.

The media of course, assumes all hispanics are the same and will simply vote for Clinton b/c that's what hispanics do. But PRs aren't going to vote for Clinton simply because the media has classified them under the title "Hispanic." The PR and AA community get along well and are quite close in the US.

I don't think Clinton will win PR. But if she does, I'm fairly confident it will have nothing to do with race.

8. Good to hear :)
I think somebody also messed up when Gov Richardson was smeared, with him being the only Hispanic Gov on the mainland.

12. And now that the Clintons have permanently pissed off Bill Richardson
I'm sure he'll be working his butt off down there, too.

I know he's Mexican and they're Puerto Rican, but it's hard for me not to believe the leading Hispanic politician in the United States will have an impact.
