Despite being the editor of the Harvard Law Review and a former law instructor, (he wasn't a "professor") he doesn’t know what “decriminalization” means

He didn’t know his nuclear energy bill didn’t pass.

He didn’t know that the chair of his New Hampshire campaign was a lobbyist.

Despite knowing Tony Rezko for almost 20 years, he had no idea he was a slum lord and influence peddler. And he can’t say for sure how much money Rezko raised for him.

Despite going to Pastor Wright’s church for 20 years, he had no idea before last year that he had said so many inflammatory things.

He didn’t always know that pushing the green button was a yes and not a no vote.

He didn’t know he had once advocated for single payer healthcare.

He didn’t know that his economic advisor had met with the Canadians and discussed NAFTA.

He didn’t know he voted for Dick Cheney’s 2005 Energy Bill.

He didn’t know what answers his campaign manager provided to questions on issues such as guns used to secure an important endorsement during his 1996 run.

The U of Chicago is going to defend whatever Obama says, because NOTHING could be better for their reputation in academia than to have a President on their faculty.

As a faculty member, I know that a senior lecturer is far, far from a professor. Professors have to undergo a rigorous search process in order to get a tenure-track position. Those searches are governed by rules of the University. They can't be granted via nepotism. They are EXTREMELY competitive positions, and in law schools, one position can draw over 100 applicants, all with outstanding credentials. Once one is hired (usually at assistant professor level), s/he has to publish in order to advance. Once one advances through assistant professor, one is considered for full professorship (tenure). Until then, they can be fired at any time. Once they achieve tenure, it's quite hard to ever be fired, and the pressure to produce publications lessens.

Lecturers, on the other hand, submit their vitaes into a lecturer pool, from which the department or school chooses when they need someone to teach a class. Someone who has lectured for awhile can become a senior lecturer (a lecturer with continuing employment, but not tenure). A senior lecturer could never become a tenure-track professor (let alone a full professor) unless s/he went through the search process like everyone else.
