What's The Real March $$$ For Obama?

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs says a Time report that his campaign raised between $30 and $40 million isn't accurate, and that they'll have the number -- which they're very good at keeping secret -- tomorrow.

"We have not finished an accounting – I don’t know honestly where Time got that number," he said. "I don’t think it’s accurate. Only two people in the campaign know that number: our campaign manager and the finance director," Gibbs said on a conference call with reporters just now.

"We hope to provide a number tomorrow," he said.

So, is it more than $40 million? Or less than $30 million?

2. Nah, I think it's less
Didn't one of his campaign people say it was somewhere in the 30's?

4. I don't think his campaign people said that. It was Mark Halperin of Time Magazine
who said they raised $30 million dollars. Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic thinks the Obama camp raised $40 million.

6. I wouldn't be surprised if it were even higher -- there were MANY...
people who said they were upping their donations during and after the Pastor W. issue, more after his More Perfect Union speech, probably more after his financial speech, etc.

But we'll see....

7. last time they were coy, they hit $55 mil.
Maybe they're holding onto it for better impact, like they did for after TX, to change the narrative.

12. It's gotta be less
I think people are exhausted from this campaign and have checked out a little bit, especially since there haven't been any primary contests for a while. the energy has died down a bit and that should be reflected in lower $$ raised.

14. Hard to tell, but I did find this!

Though the official would not provide an exact number, he did say, "The number starts with a three and we are still counting. It's in the 30s."

13. His campaign probably has more money than he can spend
He only has to focus on a few states and not spend mass amounts of money like before super Tuesday.

20. Obama Raises More Than $40 Million for March!!!
Obama breaks $40 million for March

Yet another success of lowered expectations, and well-concealed numbers, as Obama announces his fundraising numbers for March.

The campaign says he raised more than $40 million from more than 442,000, more than 218,000 of whom were giving for the first time. It's a well Obama's barely begun to tap.

More Than 442,000 Donors Help Obama Raise Over $40 Million in March

CHICAGO, IL—Senator Barack Obama’s campaign announced today that more than 442,000 contributors across the country gave more than $40 million in March. More than 218,000 donors contributed to the campaign for the first time, and the average contribution level was $96.

“Senator Obama has always said that this campaign would rise or fall on the willingness of the American people to become partners in an effort to change our politics and start a new chapter in our history,” campaign manager David Plouffe said. “Today we’re seeing the American people’s extraordinary desire to change Washington, as tens of thousands of new contributors joined the more than a million Americans who have already taken ownership of this campaign for change. Many of our contributors are volunteering for the campaign, making our campaign the largest grassroots army in recent political history.”

Contributors in March: More than 442,000

First-Time Contributors in March: More than 218,000
