Hillary to Richardson: "He cannot win Bill. He Cannot win." does she know something we don't?
from ABC News - posted tonight:

Candidate Clinton to Richardson: 'Barack Obama Can't Win'

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and former President Bill Clinton are making very direct arguments to Democratic superdelegates, starkly insisting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., cannot win a general election against presumptive Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Sources with direct knowledge of the conversation between Sen. Clinton and Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., prior to the Governor's endorsement of Obama say she told him flatly, "He cannot win, Bill. He cannot win."

Richardson, who served in President Clinton's cabinet, disagreed.

6. No, she doesn't....
She's his opponent and so her opinion is naturally weighted with some bias. But besides that, there are many, many people who support Obama who disagree with that assessment, and among those are people who have just as much inside knowledge and are as politically savvy as she is. Her supporters think she's the candidate who can beat McCain, Obama's supporters think he can, and there are many who have yet to voice their opinions. Hers isn't any more valid than any of the high-profile politicians who support Obama. She may believe that or it may be a political ploy -- either way, she doesn't having any way or knowing that.

18. She THINKS she knows that USA is more racist
than misogynist.

She is from the 60's, seeing the raw divisions and the hatred/violence therein.

She has worked to heal the breach -- and it is now repaired enough (especially amongst the younger voters) to do her in.

As Obama has said -- She represents to past - he is the future.

Either one is chancy against McPain -- but I am going with Obama, with high regard and respect for her work to make this possible.

20. If she knows something we don't, it wasn't enough to persuade Bill Richardson
Richardson is no political virgin. If Team Clinton were aware of something that they sincerely believed would Obama politically radioactive, Richardson is certainly smart enough to see how it would play in the GE.

If these reports are true, I think it's sad that Hillary has been reduced to arguing on the basis of expediency rather than merit; and frankly, it reminds me of a lot of posts on DU saying things like 'Obama can't win the GE' but without offering any substantial reasons. Sure, the Republicans will fling a big old pile of mud in his direction - but the same thing would happen to her.

He cannot win #1 = It is impossible for Obama to win because... he's this, he's that, he's not that, the people are......or are not.....

He cannot win #2 = I will not let him win, I will do Anything so that he does not win.

22. She egregiously tried to sling so much crap at him he would
appear to be unelectable; and that is her case to the superdelegates to swing her way and give her the nomination. How unfortunate it is when candidates cannot cleanly take an election contest, he or she resorts to acts of desperation to win. And Hillary does now appear desperate. Just my take ....

23. Quite frankly, I hope she did say that.
That's the only rationale I can see that justifies her staying in the race. Only if she truly believes that she is the only chance the Democratic Party has to regain the White House can I forgive the way she has run her campaign and the damage she has done to the Party. Blindness I can forgive.

Of course, I disagree with her. I think Obama can definitely win, but if you had asked me about his chances a year ago, I would have agreed with Hillary. Perhaps she has campaign blinders on. I had to change my mind and reassess Obama. I was astounded when I cam to the conclusion that he could win. Perhaps Hillary hasn't quite gotten there yet. If she hasn't, I can understand.

I truly, truly hope that she did, indeed, say, "He cannot win, Bill. He cannot win."

If not, what she is doing is unforgivable.

Or maybe, Clinton expects her vapid supporters to whine and not vote for the party nominee if it ain't her.

We must be united and strong and maybe she knows that with her supporters it's a cult of personality. People have been dreaming of her day in the sun for so long that if it fails to come to pass they will whine and pout and freak out and won't put party in front of personality.

So maybe she's right. Obama can't win.

But I damn sure know that the person who keeps LOSING to Obama has ZERO argument about her ability to win any elections. Otherwise she'd be WINNING right now instead of running out of money and about to drop out of the race.

79. You're comparing primary season to the GE
Which is very dishonest. It's mostly dems voting in the dem primaries.

Frankly, I think both are weak candidates who are going to have trouble in the GE - her likeability (or lack thereof) and his inexperience is going to make this a very close, nailbiting election. The pubs are nominating the right person - I always felt he would be the hardest to beat because he does poll well with indies and moderates - why, I'm not sure because one only has to look at his voting record which is disgustingly conservative. He also has a very good relationship with the press which we all know is good for 2-3 percentage points in the GE.

It would have been released to FOX right after his speech to seize control of the news cycle. It's not like we can pretend any longer that Hillary is above such tactics. If it could save her campaign, she'd have done it. This is simple bluster, a self-rationalizing lie she tells herself and others to explain why she's turned on her former allies.

64. It's the "we must not let him" version of "cannot", not the possibility one.
Just more desperation from Camp clinton.

69. A Translation:
"Since I long ago sold my soul to corporations, because I thought that was the only way to win, Obama cannot win unless he does the same. Admitting otherwise would make my entire life a shameful act of immoral pandering, and I just refuse to accept that possibility."

She'd basically have to realize her *whole life* was a total sham, before she could then accept that he can win.

Convention night's gonna be hard on her.

77. Just because you SAY something over and over and over again does not make it true.
"I won the lottery! I won the lottery! I won the lottery!"

Nope. Still poor and screwed.

81. If the Clintons thought they had an ace up their sleeves, they would
have played it by now. They're running out of both time and money.
