Top Hillary Adviser: Richardson Privately Said Obama Is Unelectable

This morning, Mark Halperin quoted a Clinton "associate" saying that Bill Richardson privately had confided to the Clintons that he thought Obama couldn't win a general election.

<snip>

After the news broke yesterday that Bill Clinton grew angry in a meeting with California super-delegates, and asserted that Richardson had promised five times not to endorse Obama, a Richardson spokesperson denied that Richardson ever promised Hillary any endorsement.

But that isn't what is being reported. Rather, what's being reported is that Richardson promised he wouldn't endorse Obama. Shipley didn't return my call asking for comment on that. Now a top Hillary adviser has asserted to me that this happened, and claims that Richardson said the reason for this was that he didn't think Obama could win.

1. Except that we all know that the Clinton's are both liers... ie:
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman"

Snipper fire in Bosnia.... So, who is one to believe?

4. That's the thing with trying to defend lies...
lying to begin with, some people may understand... but continuing to try to defend the lie, even after you're caught... very few will forgive that. Most will treat your claims as suspect from then on, naturally.

and Hillary's supporters scream to anyone who will listen that Wright will cost the Dems the election, pushing Obama into a place where he has no choice but to make a statement, then you want to use that statement against him. Good plan. Has a nice republican ring to it.

17. actually, i totally believe that conversation took place... it is plainly obvious that Richardson..
bailed on Clinton for the guy that was ahead because he thought his endorsement might put a nail in the Clinton coffin and that Obama would owe him big... perhaps the VP slot...

but i can guarantee that he did it for a cabinet position.

23. Richardson already denied the 'promise' talk - when that blew up in the Clinton's face
they came up with new talking points - the "he said Obama was unelectable" comment - Richardson has yet to respond to that.

They're just trying to belittle his endorsement.

I'll feel a tiny bit better if I hear Richardson denying he ever said the electability thing. Of course the Clinton campaign is going to do whatever they can to to belittle his endorsement...that's their job.

31. Speculation
I'm confused why Richardson's opinion of Obama's electability should be an issue with regard to selling the Clinton "for thirty pieces of silver."

My only thought is that Hillary or Bill Clinton had discussed with Richardson the chances of the candidates in the GE, and that Richardson may have suspected at that point Obama would be a weak candidate. The Clinton side understood, however, that Richardson rejected endorsing Obama because they mistakenly believed Richardson was confident that Obama was a poor candidate. But events convinced Richardson otherwise. What was only a suspicion was overwhelmed by the sense of a growing movement around Obama. Moreover, Richardson was probably genuinely touched by the Phil. speech, and saw Obama as someone who could make progress on issues related to minorities and immigration.

Those are the persons the Clinton's allowed to be elected in 2000, 2004..........WHERE were these leaders of American liberalism and sanity in those years??????

I didn't see Bill Clinton nullifying the vote in FL, because of voting irregularities...or Hillary asking for Ohio to be nullified in 2004, despited widespread allegations of voter intimidation.

No,they were NOT there to fight for Al Gore, or John Kerry.......they were off doing big buck speeches somewhere else in the world....check their calendars for Nov, 2004
