Obama Needs to Add "This is America. Yes, We Can."
I think it remains punchy and shows patriotism without jingoism. It is optimistic and displays what is best about his candidacy: that his unlikely story is only possible in this great country. It also highlights the strong progressive movements of our country's history.

They said slavery would never end. They said women would never get the vote. They said the day would never come when a man wanting a paying job would work less than seven days a week. They said all of these things were impossible.

This is America. We don't do impossible.

I would like him set out a broad Presidential agenda and punctuate each point with "This is America. Yes, We Can."

As in:

"Big oil companies and auto makers say we can't make safe, affordable cars that get 60 miles to the gallon. This is America. Yes, we can."

"Big pharmaceutical lobbyists tell us that universal health coverage for anyone who wants it is impossible. This is America. Yes, we can."

"After saying it didn't exist, the big polluters of the world now say that the there is nothing we can do about global warming changes. This is America. Yes, we can."

"Radical neo-cons say that you cannot have a tough, aggressive fight against terrorists at the same time that you champion diplomacy and address terrorisms roots by helping out the desperate living in desperate conditions. This is America. Yes, we can."

What do you think?

5. Think About Who He Will Be Saying It To In the General Election
And who he will be up against.

2. I like that
That's a really good idea. I also think that next time he is asked a race/electability question, he ought to say "I have more faith in the American people than that. I think they'll judge me by the plans I've put forward for this country and not by the color of my skin."

3. Honestly?
I could do without the pretty slogans. I'd rather hear some concrete plans. This goes for all politicians, not just Obama.

7. Kerry had concrete plans
And everybody said he was boring and put them to sleep.

22. I Was Starting to Prepare a Report On What Kerry Did Wrong (and Right) in 2004
Before the guy thought better of his chances in 2008. Coming up with a meta-narrative was one of the key points I was going to push, after watching the provebial ship sink with a thousand great ideas all presented at the same time to the avail of none.

24. Yeah
Everything's Connected. There's Work To Be Done In America. There were a lot of ways he could have gone, and instead we got the proverbial laundry list, what Obama calls, "Democrat's Disease".

But what the hell did I know.

26. I love Kerry- I supported and worked for him.
I think it's sad that people find intellectuals boring.

I want my President to be the smart and wise ( sniffle- I want GORE) and I could care less how inspirational their speeches are.

9. This is a Perfect Set Up For a Detailed Agenda
I tried to give you a brief sense of how this would be used to highlight the progressive agenda that he has already detailed on his website and in several focused speeches.

8. That's a good idea
I've seen lots of good ideas like this that Obama's campaign should take note of:

This is America. Yes We Can.

The other party talks about family values. We're the party that values families.

From grantcart's oped yesteday:
You want to be a part of a movement that makes it possible to eliminate the need for phone calls at 3:00 AM.

I like yours a lot. Short and sweet always works best for the attention-deprived.

10. He obviously needs to run damage control on the anti-American gist
of his campaign, started by himself and Michelle, reinforced by Rev. Wright.

16. Don't Worry The Contest Will Be Between Two People Who Love Their Country
But I am not naive. I know that the forces of cynicism out there - not naming any names - are already trying to frame Obama as anti-American.

21. Yeah cause his campaign has really had NO success
Too bad Bill Clinton and Mark Penn are busy, only they could right the ship of that floundering Obama campaign. Heck they might even be able to raise enough money to keep his head above water.

Why won't he say "I love America" at least 10 times in every speech? I for one am suspicious. :sarcasm:

13. Maybe - but instead of "we don't do impossible", I'd use...
a variation on the slogan i whipped up for my uncle's tech repair biz and say: "This is America - the 'impossible' is our SPECIALTY."
