why doesn't Hillary Clinton want the people's vote to count?
She claims to want every vote to count. That's why, she says, she wants Michigan's votes to count, and a do-over in Florida. She says she wants the voters of Florida and Michigan to count in the primary race, even though she earlier agreed that, because those states broke the rules of the DNC, those votes "don't count for anything."

Until she realized she had a legitimate challenger.

Now, she says that the votes of the people don't mean anything. Now she wants a deal in a smoke-filled room.

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) — Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is unlikely to catch rival Barack Obama in pledged delegates, hinted Thursday that she hoped to persuade a few to back her instead of him.

"There is no such thing as a pledged delegate," Clinton said in California, where she has been fundraising.

Both Clinton and Obama planned to address the state convention of the North Dakota Democratic Party on Friday, where delegates to this summer's national convention will be allocated. Obama crushed Clinton in the state's Feb. 5 presidential caucuses, 61 percent to 36 percent.

While the DNC has no rules requiring pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses to vote for the candidate, the people who serve as pledged delegates are selected by the campaigns who won them and loyalty is a key qualification.

There's no such thing as a pledged delegate?

How stupid does she think we are?

1. Answer: very stupid (or perhaps just not paying attention?)
I think the problem is that she is not THINKING:

She says she's ready on Day 1, even at 3 a.m., but a week later she "misspeaks" due to sleep deprivation.
She claims States are insignificant, not thinking about possibly needing them later (whether in 2008 or 2012).
Caucuses are undemocratic, even though Bill won them in the past and she may need them in the future.

etc. etc.
It just boggles the mind, but she is a real BRIDGE BURNER.

2. Pretty soon, she'll be saying there is
no such thing as a "super delegate."

3. Well for a while they were saying there wasn't...
they were "automatic delegates" but even they have slipped back into the more commonly used term it seems.

4. HA!
That's about right.

I can't believe that in my earliest days on this website, I dedicated considerable energy to defending the Clintons.

I take back every defense, every kind word I ever spoke about them.

They are narcissists. It is all about them and their ambitions.

They don't give a shit about this country, or the people. It is all about them and their navel-gazing selves, and their delusions of grandeur.

Screw the Clintons and their selfish selves.

They are pathetic, and never accomplished anything, but to move this country to the right. And that was the plan of the Goldwater couple all along.

(No offense to Goldwater. He was a man of principle, though I detested those principles.)

The Clintons are arrogant and selfish, and friends of the BFEE. The sooner the Democratic party can get rid of them, the better!

5. Work to change the rules if you don't like them. She's just following the rules.

7. maybe you don't understand
She's the one trying to change the rules in the middle of the contest. Are you cool with that?

10. What rules are you talking about?
The rules to seat the FL and MI delegates?

We're in a world of hurt if those delegates AREN'T seated.

13. what is so mysterious?
The rules of the DNC.

Michigan and Florida broke the rules by holding their primaries too early.

Clinton and Obama and all the other candidates agreed with the rules.

Clinton goes on a losing streak, and now wants to change, retroactively, the rules of the contest.

Does that sound familiar? Retroactive changes of the rules? Does that sound familiar?

I say, does that sound familiar?

14. MI and FL DID NOT break the rules.....
...a few boneheads in those states broke the rules. We're penalizing two entire states because of the actions of a few. Even Howard Dean realizes he fucked up now. The penalty for those two states was way too harsh. Barack Obama is the candidate who doesn't want all the votes to count.

15. what BS
You sound like Alberto Gonzales arguing for the "unitary executive." Just changing the rules because the rules are against you. And that's about right.

8. It's disingenuous for her to cry foul at the FL & MI sanctions and
say Pledged Delegates are a misnomer. Does she want the People's votes to count, or not?

11. No, it is not.
"Pledged Delegates" are an illusion. They can, and have ALWAYS been able, to vote for either candidate at the convention.

12. Let the people be heard, so they can be ignored!
Those may be the rules, but it won't win her over with the People, or the SuperD's.

19. I'm all for it. I would love a complete Election Reform.
But, right now, all I'm saying is if Hillary goes after the Pledged Delegates, she won't get very far. The Pledged Delegates and Superdelegates are more politically intelligent than to go there.

18. This is the 5th post so far on this talking point.
I'm tired of responding to them all so you can go look for my comments on the matter elsewhere.

If you dare.
