Clinton to Call for POVERTY CZAR
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 10:15 AM by NYDem Observer

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
NBC News has learned that in her remarks today, Clinton will call for a cabinet-level "poverty czar," apparantly similar to what the King family has been requesting.

Here's an excerpt from Clinton's expected remarks:
"When I say solutions, I mean finally addressing the scourge of poverty that continues to afflict so many of our families in this country. I mean appointing a cabinet level position that will be solely and fully devoted to ending poverty as we know it in America, a position that will focus the attention of our nation on this issue. That's the kind of solution I'm talking about, a solution for which Dr. King's son, Martin, has been such a passionate and effective advocate."

Interesting..

I'm sure this has nothing at all to do with gaining Edwards endorsement. :sarcasm:

1. If the economy continues to tank ...
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 10:17 AM by BattyDem
there won't be any need for a cabinet-level official - the President will be a poverty czar! :-(

On edit: I should mention that I think it's a good idea, no matter who is president. :-) It's about time the government started paying attention to poverty in this country.

9. Russian for "Cesar"
or ruler. Also gave us Persian "shah" which also gave us the phrase "Shah Mat" or "the king is dead" which, in turn, is the english "Checkmate".

Totally inappropriate title for someone who is not absolute ruler... Drug Czar, Poverty Czar, etc... as those people are answerable to the President, who is (at least until Bush) answerable to the people.

4. It's not totally because she's seeking Edward's supporters
MLK III has contacted each campaign and requested that they create a cabinet position that addresses poverty. Obama has also said he would address this.

It happens ot be the subject of the converstaion.
If it bothers you, that would be your problem. Perhaps you should avoid the thread.

Are you one of these people who likes to kid cus by swapping real vulgarity with substitutes and believing it somehow makes it better?

Instead of ass do you say heiny or bottom?

Speaking of which, Ive have noticed that every time you open your mouth, out pours some kind of retarded divisiveness. Since you have nothing of substance to add, you are the new ignore member. Congratulations!

21. This was also influence by Martin Luther King III
Speaking truth to poverty
Cabinet post could at last spur measurable results

By Martin Luther King III
For the Journal-Constitution
Published on: 04/03/08

It has been 40 years since the last sermon my father gave at the National Cathedral in Washington, when he called upon our nation's leaders to eradicate poverty once and for all, explaining that, "There is nothing new about poverty. What is new is that we now have the techniques and the resources to get rid of poverty. The real question is whether we have the will."

Today, as our nation continues to be plagued by a poverty that is inexcusable when coupled with record riches amassed by the wealthy, the challenge that consumed my father toward the end of his life has remained comfortably entrenched within the realm of rhetoric and not action.

I therefore call upon all our presidential candidates to take a vow that, within the first 100 days in office as commander in chief, he or she will appoint a cabinet-level officer whose responsibility will be to make a measurable impact on eradicating poverty and allow more Americans to move up into our middle class.

Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 11:00 AM by SoCalDem
We KNOW why people are poor.. We don't need to waste another dime "studying it".

I'll save them some time & money..

Poor people are poor because they have no MONEY..

To GET money, they must have JOBS.. REAL jobs..

To get JOBS, they need education..

The schools in poor areas tend to be SHITTY..

Fix the schools
Hire the adults & teens
Pay them a living wage

Problem solved

sincerely,

The Tsarina
