Ron Walters Just Said He Considers The DLC The Right Wing Of The Party
Speaking with Andrea Mitchell he explained that he was leaning towards Obama. When asked about HRC, he said that his problem with HRC's candidacy was that the Clintons had started the DLC, which he said was the right wing of the democratic party. Andrea tried to correct him and said she considers it to be more centrist and he replied, "Not if you're African American, it isn't."

"Professor Ronald Walters is one of the most articulate and internationally renowned experts on issues of African American leadership and politics. Born in Wichita, Kansas, on July 20, 1938, Walters has gone on to a prolific career as a scholar and voice in black politics.

After attending Fisk University as an undergraduate, Walters earned his graduate degrees from American University. He has taught at Georgetown and Syracuse Universities; chaired the African and Afro-American Studies Department at Brandeis University and the Political Science Department at Howard University; and worked as professor of government and politics at the University of Maryland. He serves as director of the African American Leadership Institute and Scholar Practitioner Program, and is a distinguished leadership scholar at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership.

Walters served as a campaign manager and consultant for the Reverend Jesse Jackson during his two presidential bids and was a policy adviser for Congressmen Charles Diggs and William Gray. During the 2000 election season, Walters worked as a political analyst for Black Entertainment Television's Lead Story. He is a regular guest and commentator for several political talk shows on radio and television.

As a scholar, Walters has penned seven books and published more than 100 academic articles. His books have won several awards for "best book" and he has received many honors for his contributions as an "activist scholar." Walters is noted for his scholarship on the politics of African descendant people in the diaspora, having traveled extensively throughout the black world. He is married to Patricia Ann Walters and resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.”

6. Hey... the More We Hear and See This is The Mainstream the Better
It's time for the DLC to be fully exposed and explained o the American public. You and I know but most folks don't even know the "DLC" exists or what they are.

3. You Don't Have to Be African American to Come to That Conclusion
I'm white and I also consider the DLC to be the arm of the GOP and corporate America.

4. He's absolutely right.
Republican lite, the worst aspects of being a Democrat. This is how we got GATT, NAFTA and the Telecommunications Acts, courtesy of Bill Clinton.

5. In a left leaning party
Isn't the "right wing" of the party the centrist wing? If the Democratic party has a center, it is certainly center-left on the full scale of American politics. Just like the "left wing" of the Republican party is in no way liberal.

9. Not Really
We do have centrists in the party, those who have more moderate views say on finances (for example) or some social issues. But there are those in the party who vote with * and the republicans a great deal of the time and who favor corporate interests above those of the people. NAFTA, as stated above, is a good example. Their votes have often been the stopper to bills that many dems wanted as well as the reverse.
