4. That's really uncalled for --
it was an emotional situation and it's moving and humbling to focus on what MLK gave to this country, and how his life was cut short.

10. Just because she's pretty vile,
doesn't mean she doesn't have any feelings. :7

I think a comment like the one I responded to takes away from the real focus of the event -- MLK. Plenty of other threads/topics in which to throw snark.

Just me.

a racially motivated primary election, talking about how MLK would not have done it
without Lyndon Johnson.

This is all a photo op, her and John McVain.

16. Nowhere did she say that MLK would not have done it without LBJ. Get your facts straight.
Saying that one person was also instrumental in accomplishing something does not imply in any way, manner, or form that the other person "wouldn't have done it". What, did MLK have a time machine? Did he look and say, "ok, LBJ is taking action, I need to go back in time and get involved".

lots of dismay that Obama is not in Memphis. No way Hillary would have missed this tribute to Dr. King.

22. That's not really true.
No, she didn't diminish MLK's actions except in the mind of those that wanted to believe that she diminished them. As nice as it would have been, as far as simplifying matters, MLK could not sign a bill into law, period. Totally disregarding any arm-pulling, ear-twisting or reasoned cajoling that either MLK or LBJ (or others involved) did, a President has to sign it into law. She knows the primary role that MLK played, and anyone that claims that she doesn't, or was trying to diminish his role is simply fooling themselves.

33. She was diminishing MLK's
achievements and you know it, spinning and using semantics is not
going to change her statement, here it is, should in case you've
forgotten;

"Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act," Clinton said. "It took a president to get it done."

Clinton didn't explicitly compare herself to Johnson, or Obama to King. But it seems an odd example for the argument between rhetoric and action, as there's little doubt which figure's place in history and the American imagination is more secure.

"The power of that dream became real in people's lives because we had a president" capable of action, Clinton said.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0108/Clinton_and_Obama_Johnson_and_King.html

another thing, she asked questions as to whether America is ready for a black President,
these are all statement which are considered divisive and yet she goes out and act like
she cares when really deep down she don't give a 'fuck' as to what working class folks are
going through.

Ofcourse, with an income of $109 million why should she? I don't expect her to, her campaign
is based on returning favors.

34. I won't argue with you. It's patently obvious that the passage of the
Civil Rights Act was a milestone. That milestone came about because of MLK's work, however, It took a President to sign the Act. If you can't see that, it's not my problem.

And your comments about her being divisive border on the laughable as long as you don't include the actions of the Obama campaign.

38. Hmmmmmm.....
I know, its his fault for being black and being called racist...
his surrogates should not have brought that up and stand up against
prejudice.

Her whole campaign is based on division, if YOU can't acknowledge
that then there is something wrong on your part, she plays all
kinds of divisiveness, race, sex and gender.

way to go dude!!

Whats next?

27. that's precisely right. the message was more about "me"
than it was about "us." And that, as Lakoff repeatedly points out, is what makes Obama so strong: he conveys a message, and creates a narrative, about us instead of about him.

26. I have no idea what your age is or if you remember when Dr. King was killed.
I remember it well. It was a very emotional time. Thom Harmann played a clip today of Bobby Kennedy announcing Dr. King's death to a crowd and I choked up. There are tears in my eyes now just thinking about it. I have no doubt that any emotion displayed by Senator Clinton today concerning Dr. King was sincere. His death was a great loss to our country.

28. She did not cry - but I did.
I watched her speech live. As she talked about her anger, throwing her book bag, marching in protest, etc. I remembered that day so vividly and the emotions and despair that I felt as well. I began to cry.

Then she talked about forgiveness - about loving your enemies. As she finished her speech I realized she was speaking to me. I am very angry at those who have portrayed her as a racist. When they call her a racist they are calling me a racist. I don't know that I can forgive the Obama supporters that have done this to her and to me.

As I was deep in thought my phone rang. The caller was an old friend. Like me he is a liberal, a Democrat, and a 40-50 year participant in all human and civil rights struggles. He too was crying. We talked about our anger at the Obama supporters who have defined us (as Hillary supporters) as racist and conservative when we are the opposite.

He, like me, is not certain if he can forgive you for the way you have treated us.
