Remember when we called them "essays" and not "blog entries"? hehe

Anyway, I was fortunate enough to live in a very small town and I do remember those days quite well. We never had much money, but I never would have thought that. My parents always made us feel like we were rich. Like, for instance, l had a minibike, but it was just a little contraption made from an old tricycle and a 2 1/2 horse Briggs and Stratten lawn mower engine, but as far as I was concerned, it was just as cool as my friend's Honda 90.

Anyway, I could go on forever thinking about those days... Thanks again for sharing that.

5. I think it sounds great, but ...

That wasn't all there was to it; if you could go back, you probably wouldn't find it all it's cracked up to be.
'“Race issue” meant arguing about who ran the fastest.' -- Little white children often weren't too aware of the other race issues. They could use the "Whites only" bathrooms and water fountains, didn't have to sit at the back of the bus, and daddy was in no danger of being lynched.
Also, dad usually took his place as the "head of the family," and mom "knew her place."

6. I didn't say there weren't problems. I just remember a more

positive environment for most people, including many blacks, except for those living in the south. But even my relatives who lived through those years in the south remember many of the things described. At least their neighbors wouldn't rob them blind and they weren't being mugged, stabbed or shot at on the whole.
