Yikes, How did Bob Casey ever get elected to anything?

Just saw him debate Rendell on MTP. Casey was
weak, very weak. He had few comebacks to
anything and let Rendell make point after point
unchallenged.

Casey doesn't come across as the sharpest knife in the drawer. In those 2006 debates, I could picture crazy Ricky hyperventilating to himself the same thing you point out. But he's crazy Ricky. 'Nuff said.

11. One thing I found interesting in this interview is how Rendell lowered

the bar. They used to tout a Clinton "double digit" lead. Now it's down to 5% according to Rendell. I'd love to see the internal polling.

Rendell was saying - the polls will narrow - and then widen a lot on election day. So maybe he thinks she'll win by 10 so he's now pushing 5-9 - make it look better in the end?

This "phenomenon" has happened to Obama in a number of states - like NH and CA.

18. I didn't consider Casey weak at all... quite the opposite.

Russert had Fast Eddie squirming and dipping and dodging. Casey didn't really have to do anything.

Why?

Because the candidate he is supporting has the most delegates, has won the most states, and has won the most popular vote. And even with PA leaning Clinton, Casey knows what the math says.

Casey came across quite self-assured and didn't need to be confrontational against someone who runs on and on with the mouth. Rendell represents everything BAD about Philadelphia to the rest of the state and the state doesn't really listen to him. Rendell got in because of the massive turnout from Philadelphia and it suburbs and that same group helped Casey throw Santorum out of a repuke state... and once again, that self-same electorate will give Obama a fighting chance here in PA.

Those of us from PA and especially from Philly who have had to deal with Rendell for over 30 years, know when he's been broadsided and is in a decidingly defensive position. IMHO, he didn't perform well AT ALL. ;)

19. The '06 Pennsylvania debates were remarkable to watch

The level of the gov debates between Rendell and Swann was at least ten fold the senate debates of Casey and Santorum. Anyone who watched those debates realized what the pecking order and competence level would be in a Rendell/Casey matchup.

Casey in the '06 debates was probably the least impressive Democratic challenger I've seen in a decade, including candidates who were defeated by double digits. His specialty was to grin and ramble through weak generalities, frustrating Santorum to such extreme that Santorum was making a fool of himself, even more than typical, ranting about Casey's leisurely schedule and lack of specifics.

It reminded me of the 1988 SNL skit, with the Dukakis character saying, "I can't believe I'm losing to this guy."
