32. Then leave, if it bothers you that much.
No-one is forcing you to participate in these forums. You're obviously here of your own free will. As long as the primary season continues, there WILL be contention between supporters of Sens. Clinton and Obama. This is politics. This is what politics IS. It is not nice. It is not pleasant. It is a blood sport. For now, and until there is a Democratic nominee, the fight is largely between two Democrats. This is perhaps unfortunate, but it is also the way things are. If you don't like it, that's really too bad, but your whining and bitching are not going to change things. This is going to go on, until one or the other candidate drops out, or, possibly, until the convention. If it makes you sick, you have the option of not reading these forums; what you don't have the option of doing is of telling other members of this forum to shut the fuck up. And again, if you don't like it, that's your problem, not anyone else's.

Divisive? Only if you happen to be a hardcore Clintonite who thinks the brutal and simple truth that she has almost zero chance of winning the nomination is 'divisive'.

46. That's neither ugly nor divisive.
'Clintonite' has been a fairly accepted term for supporters and/or close associates of both Clintons and followers of their style of Democratic politics in common usage in various media for well over a decade and a half now (cf. British usage of 'Thatcherite' and 'Blairite'). My use of it is neither ugly, nor divisive, it is descriptive.

people have to attack them on a more personal level. No one in GD:P is really interested in issues, as long as their Chosen One is nominated, they don't care. Instead, whenever people talk about their chosen candidate, instead of saying they support them over issues, we get this fluff like "I have faith in him/her" or "They inspire me" or some other feel good BS that has no relation to real life performance. I mean, for crying out loud people, these are Politicians, and you guys get into a huff when they lie? How immature do you have to be?

become.

This Obama guy worries me, because no politician in my lifetime has ever attracted, inspired, and motivated such a vile, hateful, ignorant mass of devoted followers as he has during the past several months, and they seem determined to invade this website and destroy it forever. I fear for this country if it's stupid enough to put him in the White House.

Not all Obama supporters are like this, but the vast majority of them on DU certainly are.

If things don't change soon, and if the admin/mods don't start taking control of the situation, I doubt I'll ever contribute to DU again, and will probably abandon this website forever.

23. What's ironic here...
is that while you are complaining about such "vile" comments, you're making huge generalizations which can be considered "vile" from another person's perspective. From what I can tell, you're calling everyone that supports him stupid. This is a pretty vile attack on me quite frankly. There are stupid supporters of every candidate and I personally feel that electing Bush in 2004 was proof of how stupid this country already is. If they elect McCain, it'll be further proof of it. But yet here we are with you saying the exact opposite...that an intelligent Democrat with far better policies than Bush and company being elected is somehow the end of the world. What you need to fear is a hothead warmonger like McCain getting in the White House.

62. I think I just figured something out...
There are three replies to my post, all from "Ignored" - i.e. people I've placed on "ignore" over the last several months because they're part of the problem.

Yet on "My DU" my post shows only "2 replies". That means something happened to one of the "Ignored's". This could happen if one of their posts were deleted, but that's not the case here.

The only other possibillity is that one of those 3 posters on "Ignore" has been tombstoned.

So I say: "Hip! Hip! Hooray!" to the mods/admins for taking out some of the trash.

29. I'm with you. There is no joy left in this election anymore
Just broken friendships, loss of respect for alot people and a good heaping of bitterness and disappointment at people who so easily turn on each other and treat one another so shabbily.

The worst are held up as some sort of heros by others, egging on their nastiness and hatred.

Anyone who thinks everyone will just forgive and forget after the primary is mistaken. The nominee will most likely get everyone the vote of 99.9 % of the people here, but I think DU will not heal for a very long time.

I know that personally my view of many people I respected has been completely sunk.

You're right, it's not just the newbies who seem to have invaded this place from some distant galaxy.

It's some of the people I've had enjoyable conversations with both on the boards and by PM over the years. Some are people whose writing I've admired over the years. They've changed. They're not themselves any more. Some (dare I say most?) even resemble pod people.

My wife and I are both sick and tired of this election year by now. After Edwards was shoved aside, it's gone straight down the the rabbit hole.

I have to take the stand of many of the Obama supporters above. If you Clinton supporters don't like it here then leave, we could care less, we don't need the negativism. If y'all weren't around we would have far less fighting and flaming. And while your at it don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

Or what if they are lying? Or what if they are using sleazy campaign tactics? Are you saying that it's not legitimate to point these things out? Or are we just supposed to sweep these things under the rug?
And shouldn't we consider negative factors about either candidate when deciding whom to support? I'm all for party unity, but this is a hard fought campaign after all.

They didn't say anything about civility. I am all for civility, but pointing out negative information about either candidate in a civil way is still negativity. If you look up the dictionary definition of "negativity" it doesn't say anything about civility. If people are tired of their perceived lack of civility here, that's fine, but don't use it as a broad brush to condemn anyone who brings up negative information about either candidate.
