I was referring to Coltrane 'eras' rather than individual recordings, but that's fine. Giant Steps would be the Atlantic years, an excellent choice. Not that there are any bad choices with Trane. The Impulse era, the Blue Note era, the Prestige era and the Atlantic...did I leave any out? They're all really great.

Giant Steps, quite a difficult tune to get comfortable with. For out and out difficulty, I'd go with 'Countdown' (also on the Giant Steps record) or perhaps '26-2'.
