Poll question: POLL: Does anyone regret their vote?
Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 02:50 PM by democrattotheend
Since most of us have already voted, I am curious if anyone would vote differently if they had it to do over again. Please vote and state your vote in the comments, so we can try to keep this honest (i.e. so we don't get one candidate's supporters saying they voted for the other candidate and switched in order to demoralize a candidate's supporters. If you switched please say where you voted and why you switched.

Probably with even more conviction now than when I voted for him in February.

45. Have you checked out the attendance in Eugene
between Obama and Clinton?

Apparently my local news out of Eugene (KCBY) got a lot of phone calls about the coverage of Obama in March. So, on air, they promised that all candidates coming to Oregon would get the same amount of coverage.

Obama filled Mac Court (9,000 capacity) plus an overflow room, plus the parking lot. The amount of people attending was in every newspaper report about his visit.

When Clinton was here, not a word was printed or spoken about how many attended. I later found out that South Eugene HS where she was, has a capacity of 2,500. Everyone got in that wanted in and a number of those people were Obama fans asking not so positive questions of Clinton.

Yep, I do believe it is safe to say that Oregon will go for Obama.

I am voting ABC!

64. do you think the lack of coverage for Clinton...
...was because they didn't want to underline the greater support for Obama, so as not to embarrass her? I imagine no mention is better than a comparison (not considering motive, really, just wondering).

then I'll write in Biden because it would be the only time I'd be able to "vote" for him as President.

Other than it being a done deal, though -- I'll vote for Obama.

I might have voted for Joe if he was still in it when we voted here in NJ. Same with Edwards. Dunno what I would have done if they were BOTH still in. That's a real tough one.

Hopefully Clinton will have dropped out (unlikely), but a primary will still be held in NC -- so votes for Obama would still be important.

10. Just to clarify
For the people who voted for another candidate, only say you would do so again if you would do so even after they dropped out. So if you voted for Edwards after he dropped out pick that, but if you voted for Edwards before he dropped out and now have a preference for another candidate vote that you wish you had voted for the other candidate, even if you don't regret your vote.

16. Maybe "but would now vote for"
Would have been better than "wish I had voted for". I voted for Edwards, and I certainly can not say I have any regret about it. If I knew he would be dropping out the next day, I would probably still have voted for him, but that is partly because I am in Florida. Though I now fully support Obama, I saw the Florida primary as an opportunity to vote purely without being strategic as the vote did not count. Now, in a hypothetical situation where my vote would count, I would definitely vote for Obama, but that does not really match any of the options in this poll.

19. I just changed the wording
Because I realized that those who voted for Edwards (or another candidate) when he was still running might not regret their vote but might still vote differently after he dropped out. So I hope the new wording is better.

My opinion, we have lots of local Dem Leaders and a Dem governor...

if any Democratic presidential nominee can take this state, it's Barack Obama.

74. If I had known how quickly Edwards was going to fold, I wouldn't have voted for him.
My vote was, essentially, wasted, carrying no particular
message and not helping to stop Clinton.

If I had foreknowledge that Edwards was going to cave-in
so quickly, I would either have voted strategically by
casting my vote for Obama or voted to send a real message
by writing in Gore.

I don't regret my vote for Edwards, but it turned out to
be sub-optimal. I can't remember Hillary's exact margin of
victory in new Hampshire, but if *EVERY* Edwards voter had
voted for Obama instead, we would have stopped Hillary
right then and there, and saved all the damage to the party
that she's been causing since new Hampshire.

Actually, as you might have noticed, both of my proposed
alternate votes were still on the *LOSING* side.

But (again), my vote for Edwards turned out to be
meaningless and I'll be *DOUBLE PLUS PISSED* if he ends
up endorsing Hillary. Given all that, I would instead
have voted in a different strategic direction.

50. Ouch, that sux!
That's why early voting should not start so early in primaries. It's one thing in a general, where, barring some unforeseen circumstance, the candidates are known well in advance. But in a primary where people drop out every week, it does not make sense to start early voting a month early.

I didn't expect to be forced into casting a vote for either. I've planned to write in a better Democrat. I may toss Clinton a vote, if it's still close enough that a brokered convention is possible when my primary rolls around. I don't want either to be president.

I want a better nominee.

Edited to add:

What I regret is a broken primary schedule and process that leaves better candidates behind.

53. You're hoping FOR a brokered convention?
Interesting, most Dems think it would be a disaster. I am kind of conflicted...I think it would hurt our chances in the general but at the same time it would be exciting. I'm 24, so there's never been a convention in my lifetime that wasn't a choreographed affair (well, I guess when I was 6 months old, but that doesn't count).

57. Yes, I am absolutely FOR a brokered convention.
For these reasons:

1. I don't believe either Clinton or Obama can now win the GE. I don't think they can unify the Democratic vote behind them. I think they've pre-eviscerated one another, handing the republican campaign machine plenty of ammunition.

2. I don't think either of them would be a good president. They are both centrist/corporate/3rd way/"new" dems who will stand in the way of substantive change, despite campaign rhetoric.

3. Voters have already been screwed this primary season. Between MSM manipulation, a schedule that weights some votes heavier than others, some states whose votes don't count at all, and the fact that there were only 2 primaries and 2 caucuses before the field was narrowed down to these two negates any concerns about being "democratic."

4. I believe a different candidate COULD unite the party and win in November, and be a better president in the bargain. The most obvious is Gore, but Kerry and Edwards are logical, as well.

So yea, I voted for Edwards.

Hear that all of you Obama supporters who accuse me of being a Hillary Clinton voter?

72. Nice. Have you done any volunteering in Philly?
I'm trying to compile some volunteer stories, so feel free to add any volunteer experiences or just general impressions you get from talking to your friends and neighbors or seeing lawn signs in your neighborhood.

79. Well they aren't ripping the stickers off or writing disparaging things next to or on them.
As they did to the Hillary ones. I feel that most of them are behind Obama. There is still a small racist/sexist element there indicated by some of the shithouse graffiti.
