THE PLEDGE re: FL&MI for all who insist it was something it was not!
The PLEDGE, read it and weep.

THEREFORE, I _______________, Democratic Candidate for President, in honor and in accordance with DNC rules, pledge to actively campaign in the pre-approved early states Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina. I pledge I shall not campaign or participate in any election contest occurring in any state not already authorized by the DNC to take place in the DNC approved pre-window (any date prior to February 5, 2008). Campaigning shall include but is not limited to purchasing media or campaign advocacy of any kind, attending or hosting events of more than 200 people to promote one’s candidacy for a preference primary and employing staff in the state in question. It does not include activities specifically related to raising campaign resources such as fundraising events or the hiring of fundraising staff.

Pass it on to the others who can not get this correct!

4. That was from the four early states. There was also a letter from Dean the same day.
The PLEDGE was sent around and signed by these people:

Senator Tom Harkin

Governor Chet Culver

Chair Scott Brennan, Iowa Dem. Party

Senator Harry Reid

Chair Jill Derby, Nevada State Democratic Party

Chair Ray Buckley, New Hampshire Dem. Party

Congressman Jim Clyburn

Chair Carol Fowler, South Carolina Dem. Party

There was also this letter from Dean:

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2007/08/dean_urges_presidential_candid.php

""As the leader of the Democratic Party, I strongly urge you to adhere to the 2008 delegate selection rules."

Last weekend, the party's rules and bylaws committee found Florida's proposed Jan. 29 primary in noncompliance. They stripped the state of all of its delegates, pending a decision by Florida to revise its plan. Florida refused and has threatened to sue the DNC for depriving Democrats the right to vote.

"My goal as Chairman, and our objective as a Party, is to structure a nominating process that adheres to rules that are clear, straightforward and published. The vast majority of states have complied with these rules," Dean writes. "The RBC did one thing on Saturday: enforced the Party's rules."

7. Why do you insist that there are only certain rules?
What about the rule to take the matter to the credentials committee like I heard Howard Dean explain during an interview.

There are still more RULES that matter. All the rules count, even if some don't like it!

8. Which rules do you like? Pick em out and follow them.
And ignore the rest.

9. Excellent, given the continuing confusion.
The part where they agree not to "campaign or participate" is most relevant, I think, against the criticism directed at those who took their name off the MI ballot. It is pretty clear that they should have thought that was what was expected of them.
