Hillary ridicules Obama's theme of hope then steals it:
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 12:41 PM by jenmito

"Scranton" (Scranton Market)
TV :30

Hillary Clinton: This is me in Scranton, where my father was raised, and my grandfather worked in the lace mill.

Every August, we'd pile into the car and head to our cottage on Lake Winola.

There was no heat, or indoor shower-just the joy of family.

I was raised on pinochle and the American dream.

I still have faith in that dream

It's just been neglected a little.

We all need to dream it again

And I promise we will.

I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/08/clinton-i-grew-up-on-pinochle-and-the-american-dream/

Obama's been talking all along about hope, and Hillary has ridiculed him for it, and of course, now she's using it ("dream" in place of "hope" but same message).

Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 04:58 PM by Paint It Black
Earlier, Hillary and you folks were mocking Obama for all of his "hope and dream" speeches. Now Hillary comes along with an ad about hope and dreams.

You honestly can't see why people would have a heydey with this? Really?

on edit: maybe "stealing" isn't the right word. But it's damned HYPOCRITICAL as hell.

Your candidate was the one who was MOCKING Obama for "dreaming of a better future"

God, I can't believe you're such a partisan that you can't even see how hypocritical your posts in this thread are.

33. i still find it remarkable that obama is the "hope" candidate
considering that bill ran as "the man from hope" in 1992.

ironic, if nothing else, for hillary to have completely ceded this ground.

40. It's how she spins the summer cottage that got me
The nature of summer cottages -- at least back in the 50's -- is that they were just that. They didn't need heat because they were only used in the summer. And they didn't need an indoor shower because you'd typically use an outdoors shower after swimming.

But to juxtapose it to her grandfather working in the lace mill, and to say "There was no ... just the joy of family" makes it sound as if she was growing up in a slum somewhere.

Far from it!

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/16415671.html

Hillary Rodham Clinton's Pennsylvania roots are here in this mostly seasonal Wyoming County community of less than 1,000, about 17 miles north of Scranton. Her father, Hugh Rodham, grew up in Scranton and is buried there. And each summer, Rodham would haul his brood from their suburban Chicago home to the modest, two-story cottage he and his father built here in 1921. . . .

Descended from Welsh laborers who settled in Scranton, Rodham played football at Penn State and went on to success as a salesman and textile supplier in the Midwest. Nonetheless, he refused his children allowances and ruled the home thermostat with an iron finger.

Even in prosperity, Rodham clung to his hardscrabble past, a part of which was the cottage, originally built with no heat or inside plumbing. Each August, he piled the family before dawn into the family Lincoln - "the barge," according to Clinton - and set off for another two weeks at Lake Winola.

In his new biography of Hillary Clinton, Carl Bernstein writes that Rodham "meant the vacation to connect his children to a past not as privileged as the one they knew in Park Ridge, as well as to maintain a strong sense of family."

47. Hillary talked about 'restoring the American Dream' from Day One
Day One of her campaign. I disagree with her about the American Dream though, I think the materialism of it has been one of America's big flaws. I might even quote William James on that, but it probably would be called sexist.

49. "There was no heat..." Um, it was August. So what?
Surely the idea of getting away in August is to escape the excessive heat of the city. As for the indoor shower, I'd feel bad about it if I had a vacation home that I used 2 weeks a year. I don't really think this is going to bring people flocking back to her.

It's a lovely ad from someone who actually does know the state. But the fake purveyor of hope and his sycophants have to nitpick it to death. I still don't know why will these same people expect us to vote for their leader in November. The thought of having that guy in the WH is as comforting as a root canal.

I even saw her adopt McSames gestures. The way he juts his arms forward when he speaks Hillary was doing the same thing while she spoke, and she looked so fake it was weird. Then she added her own little finger pointing like Bill. She is still all over the place with her triangulating - I see.
