2. I like the line in the first one.
Indeed working class is the underdogs in today's economy where jobs are shipped to wherever they are supposedly cheaper.

The president of the Harvard Law Review can have just about any job he wants coming out of law school, including a prestigious Supreme Court clerkship.

A prestigious, well known Chicago firm in legal circles.

8. Doubtful.
Presidents of the Harvard Law Review are rarely offered jobs that pay well. In fact, most graduates of Harvard Law School are laughed at in the private sector! It's surprising that he's not the night manager of a fast food joint with shitty credentials like that. Wouldn't you agree?

..were never offered/ never applied for?
Sounds like just some more of the fluff he's placed on his personal history.

21. Sidley Austin
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 04:06 PM by woolldog
As I said, it's a well known well regarded law firm. Typically during the summer of your 2L year you work for a law firm. They usually extend an offer of permanent employment at the end of the summer, to begin after law school graduation. As a magna cum laude graduate from Harvard, and President of the HLR, Obama could've gone to any firm he wanted.

"As the Law Blog noted, Obama had an offer from Sidley Austin, where he had summered"

22. I'll type slowly so you can understand.
Any list of high-paying jobs that may have been offered to a recent college graduate is not public information.

Asking someone to provide that sort of list is stupid and dishonest.

How about YOU name someone who graduated from the Harvard Law School who was NOT offered a big job? The burden is on you.

23. Here's some proof for you:
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/02/20/obama_got_start_in_civil_rights_practice/

Attorney Judson Miner called Harvard to offer a job to a graduating student named Barack Obama and didn't expect to be showered with gratitude. Still, he wasn't expecting the reception he got.

"You can leave your name and take a number," the woman who answered the phone at the Harvard Law Review said breezily. "You're No. 647."

That was 1991 and even then Obama -- the Illinois senator now seeking the Democratic presidential nomination -- was a hot commodity.

As the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama had his pick of top law firms. He chose Miner's Chicago civil rights firm, where he represented community organizers, discrimination victims and black voters trying to force a redrawing of city ward boundaries.

-snipped-

"It's a real do-good firm," says Fay Clayton, lead counsel for the National Organization for Women in a landmark lawsuit aimed at stopping abortion clinic violence. "Barack and that firm were a perfect fit. He wasn't going to make as much money there as he would at a LaSalle Street firm or in New York, but money was never Barack's first priority anyway."

-snipped-

Obama was part of a team of attorneys who represented the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois in 1995 for failing to implement a federal law designed to make it easier for the poor and others to register as voters.

5. That's a great mailer!
Looks like it could be pretty effective. Very well tailored to PA. Has he put Casey in any TV ads? If not, he should. I admit I was not too excited about Casey when he ran for Senate, but he took a big risk by endorsing Obama in a state where he was 20 points down and he deserves credit for that.
