Veepstakes: The Ambinder Short Lists
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 11:41 AM by NYCGirl
Interesting speculation. No, sorry, there's no listing for Clinton.

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/04/veepstakes_the_ambinder_shortl.php

Sen. John McCain.

1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) -- He's the favorite.

The rest, in no particular order:

#. Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) -- working hard to earn respect of McCain
#. Gov. John Hunstman, Jr. (R-UT) -- nice man; solid tenure as government official
#. Sen. John Thune (R-SD) -- underwhelms as a surrogate but McCain bonded with him over family history
#. Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) -- McCain respects his decision not to endorse in the primary

Sen, Barack Obama

1. vacant. Just to be provocative, I'll throw out Joe Biden's name. His hidden asset is his connection with white, working class voters. His obvious asset is his foreign policy experience and.

The rest:

#. Ex-Sen. Tom Daschle (D-SD) -- he has powerful allies in Obama's inner circle; Midwestern credentials; government know-how; credibility with white working class voters;
#. Gov. Janet Napolitano (D-AZ) -- Obama really likes her.
#. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) -- his donors will pressure Obama; Dodd and Obama have become close friends
#. Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) -- the narrative would be awesome
#. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) -- Hagel himself seems to want Obama to ask him to join the ticket.

1. Bob Graham. It's so obvious. Makes so much sense. The ONLY Democrat to make Florida viable

in light of their horrendous election theft history.

He's solid, plain spoken.

Was right on Iraq from Day One.

Might woe reticent white voters.

2. I don't see Hagel or Dodd being on the shortlists myself...maybe Biden
But no mention of either Bill Richardson or Kathleen Sebelius...both of whom I think WILL be in the veepstakes talks.

9. Funny, I don't see Bill Richardson on Obama's list.
I suspect he's right there at the top.

Hagel? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. There is no way ANY democrat is going to stick an anti-choice, anti-stem cell research Republican on the ticket.

If they do, MILLIONS OF US WILL WALK.

And Joe Biden? Ugh. Maybe if Hillary was the nominee. Obama, I don't think so. Aside from Biden's well-known propensity to stick his foot in his mouth, there's his ego and his assosciation with idiotic, pandering legislation- like the RAVE Act.. I suspect Barack has had enough of those character traits via his tangles with Senator Clinton.

Was this written by an East Coaster, perhaps?

10. Not that I am crazy about the idea
of Hagel as VP, but I cannot stop from wondering: "MILLIONS OF US WILL WALK"... walk WHERE exactly?

11. Sorry, Roe v. Wade is not negotiable. Putting an anti-choice Repub. on the ticket is a dealbreaker.

For a LOT of people.

Don't believe me? Ask around.

Walk where? Fuck if I know. Personally, I'd probably either go Green or Libertarian. All I know is, there sure as shit isn't much point in voting "Democratic" if the #2 person on the ticket is a Republican who, given half the chance, will stick retrograde knuckle-fucks like Scalia or Alito on the SCOTUS. Kind of defeats the purpose of voting for the, and again I put it in quotes for this ridiculous fucking example, "Democrats".

And it's bad politics too, because ...wait for it... THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS ARE PRO-CHOICE.

Here's a quick pop quiz: Do you know when the largest peaceable assembly on the mall in DC was? Do you know what it was for?

I'll wait for your answer.
