GOP loses 2 more county registration majorities
By Nancy Petersen

Inquirer Staff Writer

For the first time in the history of Chester and Delaware Counties, the Republican Party cannot claim the majority of registered voters, having been supplanted by a combination of Democrats, independents, and other party affiliations.
According to data released this week by the state Bureau of Elections, the number of Republicans on the rolls in Chester County is 147,257. All other registered voters total 158,886; of those, 111,916 are in the Democratic column.

In Delaware County, other parties outnumber the GOP, 193,858 to 189,386. The Democratic tally is 154,707 - cause for jubilation among party leaders.

"The impetus for this whole thing was the primary," said Cliff Wilson, chairman of the Delaware County Democratic Committee. "It is the historic nature of the candidates that has done this."

*******************************************************************

This is a very big deal, DUers...you can't imagine what these counties used to be like in the old days...house after house, all lower middle-class dwellings, twins, etc., with Reagan, Bush, Dole, Son of Bush signs and those for folks down ticket. It was like something our of the old Soviet Union where you saw the hammer and sickle endlessly. If these counties are even trending Dem or independent, then the rest of the country must be doing the same. Rock-ribbed RW folk here until Bush the Younger. After Weldon (R-insane) lost, the floodgates have opened.

I guess we can thank him for something...just kidding, as you all know.

3. Bucks County also for the 1st time
Another GOP bastion falls

Bucks County, for the first time since 1978, has more Democrats than Republicans. It might be temporary.

Another section has toppled in the once-solid Republican wall of suburban counties surrounding Philadelphia. Bucks County has joined Montgomery County in going Democratic.
For the first time in 30 years, more voters are registered as Democrats in Bucks as Republicans.

I posted these three county results in the state PA forum, but few ever go there!

4. I grew up in Bucks County just outside New Hope...

You couldn 't find a Dem to run for any local offices. the only reason to go to the polls was for statewide adn federal elections. Most Rethugs were unopposed...yes even in the 'artist's community of New Hope" and we all knew what that euphemism meant in those days.

Old style Conservatism: Stay outta my bedroom and my wallet.

New style Conservatism: We're coming in...and you better watch your wallet.

5. Joe Sestak and Patrick Murphy and all their grassroots
supporters back in 2006 deserve a lot of credit on this.... two great Vets who are doing a great job representing their constituents. Joe has endorsed Hillary and Patrick has endorsed Obama.

I salute them both.:patriot:

I'm still blown away by Chester County. They freaking voted for Bush in 2004, now they're Dem. Crazy.

it's just unbelievable.

I live in Narberth PA now. Bastion of rethugism until all of us Progressives showed up. Now we're considered liberal. Town Council was Rethug for 230 years or so, Now Dem.
School Board too.
