Hillary supporter here - but I have to give kudos to Obama.
I was glued to the SFRC hearings yesterday, and while all the Senators did an awesome job - I want to say how impressed I was with Obama's questioning.

First I have to say that he bugs the crap out of me how long it takes him to say something (you didn't think this post would be all praise, did you? ;) )

BUT.....

He was so down to earth with Petreaus and Crocker. He looked them in the eye, never once raised his voice, and everytime they went into their spiel about how hard, how fragile Iraq was, Obama brought them back. To me he seemed like he wanted to work with them, to reach a common ground as a starting point.

To me - for the first time ever - I could see Obama as President.

I'm I changing my support from Hillary to Obama? Hell no - BUT I will give credit where credit is due.

4. I have to admit - I was pleasantly surprised.
The last couple of hearings on Iraq, he was not ready.

Yesterday he was.

On policy for the most part, including how we move forward in Iraq, I agree with her.
My complaints with Hillary are mostly personal :-)

7. We need to have a celebration here. We have an Obama supporter
complimenting Hillary and a Hillary supporter complimenting Obama.

How can this be????

18. because our desire to have a Democratic President in 2009 overrides our candidate favoritism
:-)

That'd be my guess.

8. I agree with your observation, Pirhana.
To me, Obama comes across as REASONABLE. Unlike Bush (and McCain), as though he might actually LISTEN to someone else's input and give it consideration.

Recommend!

12. So much of what we watch is a joke. It's like theater.
Everyone acting a certain way - going for the biggest applause line.

And then there was Obama. Maybe he realized that this just may fall on his shoulders, but he acted like he really wanted to work with them.

17. I was concerned that both Hillary and Obama
would be couching every word in how it would come across in a sound bite, because of the enormous attention that would be paid to their every utterance. And it would be understandable.

They BOTH rose above it, in my opinion. They both did their J.O.B. and deserve to be commended.

20. Hillary was also great yesterday
As I wrote at the time, her questions were probing, specific, and informed. Both Clinton and Obama--and Feingold and Kerry, too--did us proud.

22. I believe the SFRC has the most knowledgeable senators on it - even a couple GOPs
who strive to do their job, which is HIGHLY unusual for any committee.

25. Definitely agree.
And it doesn't hurt that my two favorite Senators are on that committee.
(Biden and Kerry)

Heck - I am glued to the SFRC hearing no matter what they are meeting on ;)

23. It's a slippery slope pirhana
I was very anti-Obama at first but after listening to him a few times, I decided to pay more attention and give him an honest shot. A few weeks later, after voraciously reading his history and positions, I was a cooked goose.

28. Obama must have been a very good lawyer.
His deposition skills shone through in that questioning. He managed to pin down Petraeus and Crocker without seeming confrontational.

29. His speaking cadence makes me batty at times too!LOL
I almost think it's a subconscious way of getting people to listen more closely. I knew a lady at a former workplace who spoke in a similar way, and I noticed that when we were in small groups, it always seemed like people were just hanging there waiting for her to make her point. She was a sweet and soft spoken lady, and it occurred to me that maybe since she wasn't the type to be assertive or loud, she had learned that pauses and tone caused people to wait in anticipation for her words.
