Obama will lose to McCain: Codswallop. Baloney. Malarkey.
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 07:12 AM by cali
It's some Hillfans dearest dream. They like to lugubriously repeat
how Obama will be ground to dust by the devastatingly appealing John McCain. For evidence, they point to polls that are 7 or 8 months out from the general election.

Nonsense. Yes, of course, it's possible that Obama will lose against
McCain, but if past is prologue, Obama will run an excellent campaign
against John McCain, just as he has against Clinton. And you can bet
your last dollar that the Obama campaign has already done extensive strategizing for the general election.

Proclaiming that Obama doesn't stand a chance against McCain, is as
ridiculous as claiming he can't lose against him, and it's pretty damn
ironic that it's coming from hillfans who proclaimed smugly a few short
months ago that he didn't stand a chance against Hillary.

Go ahead. Keep underestimating Obama. But do at the the peril of looking like an idiot. Again.

5. All I'm saying is that it's idiotic
to forecast that Obama will absolutely lose to John McCain. And a
lot of Hillfolk do just that each and every day here.

3. "It's some Hillfans dearest dream." This to me is troubling.
I hope it's only because of the high emotions running rampant this primary season and they eventually see reason. But the attitude does make me wonder who the real Dems on this board are. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
And I agree, I think Obama will shine up against McCain, for so many reasons.

30. I resent the original comment. It's not my "dearest dream."
More like my worst nightmare. Sadly, for some O fans, their worst nightmare is a Hillary presidency (and not another Puke presidency).

9. Hillfans dearest dream? C'mon....
I think we ALL assume Obama will win the election in a walk...if he's our Nominee that is.

However, we forget that most elections are decided by moderate Democrats AND moderate Republicans and others "in the center."

How well our candidate appeals to the center is what will determine the outcome of the election. When it comes down to that, I don't think this election is as much of a lock as we'd like to think. I think we're going to have to take McCain seriously and work our asses off. Getting complacent and ASSUMING we'll win will get our asses kicked.

It's unthinkable to me. And some people on both sides of the
Obama/Clinton debate, have so demonized the other candidate, that they
justify not voting or voting for McCain. Just idiotic.

The 28%'ers will vote for him and that's it. The repukes have driven the country into a ditch they can't get themselves out of. They're incompetent imbeciles. Forget it. McCrazy elected as a 3rd guaranteed Bush term? Not a chance.

15. I can't wait for the first presidential debate when we see side by side
a tall and robust Obama next to the little old man McCain. What a contrast to Americans just their physical appearance will be. Obama looks like a man who can endure the rigors of the presidency. Presidents do show age after they have been in office, McCain is already an old, old man and his age will give many reason to doubt.

21. The only way he holds his own in a debate is with the same radio transmitters they wired
Manchurian Bush to.

His "integrity" might get the best of him here. I don't see him doing it. And sure can't see him coming off as a leader in a debate against either Hillary or Barack.

26. Because McCain is not a sitting president
because we hadn't then suffered 5+ years of a disasterous war, spent trillions of dollars, and lost over 4,000 American troops. Because the economy wasn't completely in the tank and we weren't spending 3.75 for a gallon of gas or 4.50 for a gallon of milk.

36. They certainly will not hurt because many Americans will make a gut decision
based upon a candidate's appearance. Ever hear about the Kennedy/Nixon debates on tv and think that looks make no difference? Unlike here at DU there are millions of Americans who are not well versed in a candidate's positions. After seeing for weeks somebody having to whisper answers into McCain's ear and his plain ignorance on many things I think that many Americans will make a gut decision concerning who they perceive to be more presidential when they see Obama and McCain side by side.

23. He could but I don't see it happening
Barring some hideous scandal emerging from Obama's closet, McCain has exactly one thing in his favour: His (genuine) war hero status. While I don't want to see the Dems go the same route that raised questiosn about Kerry's (equally genuine) war record, it shouldn't be too difficult to show that McCain is, as Bill Maher said, a warrior who's dumb about war.

Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 04:04 PM by GoldieAZ49
Gore lost the Electoral vote

and there was no judicial theft

I think it was the NYT that gathered all the ballots after the recount and W won.

Of course they didn't put it on the front page but buried it inside.

on edit:

How many Dem presidents have there been since we lost the majority of white male votes?

Clinton would not have won if Perot had not run.

I count zero.

31. This is spot on. One only needs to compare the quality of Hillary's vs. Obama's campaign.
Obama will mop the floor with McCain. I don't see why anyone thinks that once the light of day shines on McStain that he will retain more than the 20%rs and a smattering of racists, etc. He is not the "saint" that some people have perceived. Plus, he is a gaffe-o-matic par excellence. He is essentially a sacrificial lamb this year when the Goopers know they are toast.
