McCain = Iraq Occupation As Obama = Global War on Terror
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 02:55 PM by DrFunkenstein
McCain is inseparable from the Iraq occupation. The Obama campaign should stop referring to it as the Iraq War and begin to properly call it the Iraq occupation. It builds upon the fatigue people feel about the fiasco costing us hundreds of billions in tax dollars and the priceless lives of our soldiers (and their civilians).

Meanwhile, Obama needs to press for a stronger, deeper fight against international terrorism. We need the funds from the Iraq War for better human intelligence, tracking down terrorist money, and building upon our woeful homeland security. Obama needs to hammer into people that we must strike at the desperate roots of terrorism, as well as severing its grotesque flowers.

Beyond fighting the poverty and ignorance that feed terrorism, our deeply stretched military needs the flexibility to fight the GLOBAL reach of Al Qaeda. We cannot leave all of our eggs in the handbasket of Iraq.

Obama should also remind voters of the Bush failure in Tora Bora to eliminate Osama Bin Laden. He should make it his mantra that we need to fight a much larger war than the one McCain wants to commit us to. We cannot afford such short-sightedness. We need someone who has a progressive global initiative in place long before any phone call can come in the night.

Obama has the rhetorical skills it takes to convey the need for a progressive foreign policy. It is time to make the choice simple for voters: vote to continue the occupation, or vote to start a true, progressive war on terrorism.

And that, my fellow Democrats, means a plan for peace. Let's give it a chance.
