Operative: Hillary Aims to KneeCap Obama Before PA Primary

She's b-a-a-a-a-ck! Just when you thought it was safe...."Tonya"Clinton is putting her skates back on, some time before primary day in Pennsylvania.

So says a Clinton operative "overheard" by National Review reporter Jim Geraghty. I don't know the creditability of the NR.(Lots of references to Taylor Marsh, etc - its as if the Clinton surrogates and the right wing are BFFs.
Still, this bears watching.

The Clinton campaign is circling the drain. Only by mortally wounding Obama would Clinton have any hope of getting the nomination in her lifetime. As others have warned, she would have to break Obama's back now, ruining him as a politician forever, to even hope for last ditch run in 2012.

If a Bombshell Will Drop in Pennsylvania, It Will Drop a Week From Now

Jim Geraghty. Thursday, April 10, 2008. The National Review

A smart political operative said within earshot of me yesterday that if Hillary has more metaphorical bombshells to drop on Obama — and this operative has heard secondhand that she does — she'll do so between April 16, the date of her next debate with Obama, and April 22, Pennsylvania's primary day. The timing, of course, is so she doesn't get asked about it by the moderator or confronted by Obama.

Hillary's numbers have actually been inching up a bit in the Keystone state lately. At the beginning of the month, Public Policy Polling shocked the world by suggesting Obama was ahead by two points. Their latest poll puts Hillary up by 3. In the Insider Advantage poll, Hillary's lead has increased from three percent to ten percent. In SurveyUSA, she's gone from leading by 12 to leading by 18. Some other polls show no change or a slight loss of ground.

Don't put anything past the Clinton campaign, look at her track record so far.

1. No stone left unturned, no poo left unhurled.
And when she's emptied her arsenal into Obama's back I hope she finally accepts her defeat and slinks back to the Senate.

'a Clinton operative "overheard" by National Review reporter Jim Geraghty'

Real deep, solid reporting there....

"A smear campaign is an intentional, premeditated effort to undermine an individual's or group's reputation, credibility, and character. "Mud slinging", like negative campaigning, most often targets government officials, politicians, political candidates, and other public figures. However, private persons or groups may also become targets of smear campaigns perpetrated in schools, companies, institutions, families, and other social groups.

Smear tactics differ from normal discourse or debate in that they do not bear upon the issues or arguments in question. A smear is a simple attempt to malign a group or an individual and to attempt to undermine their credibility.

Smears often consist of ad hominem attacks in the form of unverifiable rumors and are often distortions, half-truths, or even outright lies; smear campaigns are often propagated by gossip spreading. Even when the facts behind a smear are shown to lack proper foundation, the tactic is often effective because the target's reputation is tarnished before the truth is known."

2. If he's hidden a 'bombshell,' that's his bad, not hers; or would you rather McCain reveal it?
Are you a religious follower or do you want Dems to win in November? Don't blame the messenger.

6. You're working on to many presumptives........
a. McCain's campaign would have to find 'the dirt'.

b. McCain would have to decide whether or not to use it.

c. This can also be used against Hillary if she were to win. Almost everyone hates a sore loser, but the one thing people hate even more is a sore winner.

If they are substantial enough for her to be questioned about them in a debate, then they must be made up, exaggerated, or otherwise swiftboat material.

And if there is one, let's hear it. Shit or get off the pot, as they say.

that would "kneecap" or "destroy" or "mortally wound" Obama that we have not been over at this point. Anything she "hurls" at him will be obvious confabulation by a known confabulator, and will only be believed by the "true believers" who are already not going to vote for him. It's just more sniper fire. She was already running out of gas when she came up with the NAFTA role-reversal lie.

25. The Sinclair thing is even worse...
there's absolutely no way of proving Sinclair's claims one way or another without the supposed limo driver coming forward. And since there is no way to outright absolve Obama (he did not keep records back in 1999 of his day to day activities), many people will simply believe what Sinclair says. Plenty of Hillary supporters believe it and of course plenty of right wingers believe it, but of course their belief is driven by politics more than anything else.

She will never be President.
She has realized this and it really pisses her off.

Those days when the US Senate was kind of divided pretty even and he was able to transform himself into the a proverbial large puss filled canker sore of the body politic.
Done for nothing more than attention and spite. The circumstances seem eerily similar

Everyone in the party w/ gravitas would be demanding it, and he would oblige.

We can pretend otherwise, but you know I'm right.

nobody's kneecapped anybody. You guys cry over every little thing as if it's the worst thing ever in the history of politics.

It's nonsense. This has been, historically, a pretty tame campaign.

You blame Clinton for absolutely EVERY unflattering thing said about Obama, and you excuse him for all the hits on Clinton. It's a very one-sided view of things.

And he would have done it- he has no intention of destroying his brand name or the good will of the grass roots and the rest of the party- and would have plenty of other chances- but it diodnt turn out that way- he is winning.

In Hillary's defense, she does realize this is her last chance- so I can see why she would put her self before the party...

62. If any Hillary supporter thinks Ayers is good for Hillary, read this paragraph:
But the Obama-Ayers link is a tenuous one. As Newsday pointed out, Clinton has her own, also tenuous, Weatherman connection. Her husband commuted the sentences of a couple of convicted Weather Underground members, Susan Rosenberg and Linda Sue Evans, shortly before leaving office in January 2001. Which is worse: pardoning a convicted terrorist or accepting a campaign contribution from a former Weatherman who was never convicted?

Hillary introduced and announced the Kitchen Sink strategy.

Her campaign doesn't pay the small people creditors.

She is against Nafta but lobbied for it, she says it was Bill.

She is against the open trade with Columbia, but her advisor and also her husband are for it.
Her husband profits from working with Columbia.

Her campaign says Penn is gone, but he isn't, he has a new/different title, he's still
there advising her.

She told the media that she was against the war before Obama, but she wasn't.
Her husband Bill was FOR the war.

She is running quite a different campaign from Obama.

56. If she drops some "Bomb" AFTER the debate then you can be assured it's BS
If there was something that was so destructive to his campaign she would put it out there UNLESS it was something she made up or took totally out of context.

Offering it up AFTER the debate, where he will have no opportunity to address it on a National scale, is not only disingenuous, it would mean it is intended simply as media fodder for a day or so before it is proved to be false, yet released close enough to the PA primary to have an effect with the lesser minds amongst us that buy into that kind of thing where "proof" is not an issue.

Kind of like the Do You Think Obama is a muslim? "Not that I'm aware of" comment.

I gotta say, I really hate this kind of politics. For my money I wish they both were simply out there talking about whats wrong in America and what they will do to make things better, and directing their attacks at McCain instead of each other.

173. Let's go to your original post
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 01:59 PM by catgirl
the one that inspired my comments. The one where you basically, in a fairweather friend
way, throw Obama under the bus.

Here's what you said:

If Obama has been paying attention he already knows what it is,

if this is true. Whatever happens will happen. It makes me miss Kucinich and Edwards and Biden and Richardson and...

You're clearly assuming Obama has done something horrible and it makes you miss the other candidates. That
inspired my question to you and my "get a grip" comment. Instead of addressing your post, you chose to insult
me. Whatever. I'm done with this petty "argument". I generally try to avoid the O vs. C supporters threads for
this very reason. Whether you meant to flame, or not, you did just that.

175. No I'm not. Don't read so much into it
However, the possibility does exist that he can have terrible things said about him. Do you remember what happened to Kerry? It doesn't have to be true for them to hurt the candidates.

I really don't want to fight with you though so all I can say is I believe this was a misunderstanding and leave it at that.

Peace

176. I agree to both of those things

I was going to contact you privately, but what the heck, everyone can
read all these posts anyway. Let me just say this- I didn't even realize
it was you at first (your 1st post to me), because I was so quick to respond.
Had I noticed in the first place, I would have perhaps been a little more
gentle. It took a couple exchanges for me to realize this (that's why I thought
you were blindsiding me). Sorry about that.

I agree that the possibility that Clinton, or someone else, will try to
swiftboat Obama, and I feel anxious about it. And some of these
lies... can take a while to debunk, so it's a cause for concern.

I do think this was a misunderstanding and we were both interpreting
things in a cloudy way.

And peace to you.

133. you're right. the fact that the National Review links to Taylor Marsh should be a hint
but on the odd chance that the "reporter" actually did overhear
a Clinton operative, perhaps the NR and Clinton folks hang out together,
its possible.

I wouldn't have been concerned, but there is a bi partisan list
serve that I am on where this crap was posted. The moderator of that
list, although GOP, usually doesn't post garbage.

I took it as a warning.

Maybe Hillary isn't planning to try to knee cap Obama, or "break his back" as
some have warned.

Maybe Hillary is finished throwing her "kitchen sink", but we have seen
what she does, what her creditability now is, how she runs her campaign.

I would NEVER have believed that Hillary Clinton, the Hillary of personal fortune of over $109 Million, would stiff a bunch of girl scouts!

I NEVER would have believed that she would hire an advisor from the same firm that
works for John McCain!

So, a warning or threat, just like Operation Chaos at Rush Limbaugh's deserves to be
evaluated.

The NR may be a rag, but there may be some truth to what their "reporter" is saying.

or some new statement of Wright to be twisted out of context in its entirety. It's got to be a race-based attack because they don't have anything else left to keep the undecideds from breaking towards Obama.

109. Link to Farrakhan maybe??????
Earlier today I posted a piece from today's Los Angeles Times which trashes Barack Obama for being perceived as empathetic to Palestinians.

It's a ridiculous piece. Writer Peter Wallsten, seems to be suggesting that Obama may have problems with Jews because some Arabs like him.

But thanks to TPM Cafe reader Lally and the great NATION reporter, Ari Berman, we now have the rest of the story. Turns out that Wallsten was trolling for anti-Obama dirt and turned to the far right Kahanist blogger Debbie Schlussel to give it to him. She obliged but because he didn't credit her, she blows the whistle on him.

Schlussel also also reveals that Wallsten, the LA Times reporter on the Obama beat, is desperately trying to find links between Obama and Farrakhan. (I guess that is the "scandal" the Clinton folks are counting on to end Obama's candidacy, the one they keep hinting about.)

We need to go against the Repugs knowing as much as they do. If anything is held back out of loyalty now, it will come out at the hands of our opponents in the fall and end all hope of restoring a progressive agenda.

This is not a sports contest, it's a bareknuckle brawl for the shape of the future.

She is such a typical politician who wants to do anything to win, no matter what it means for her opponent. If that rumor is true, I won't even be able to respect her even after she endorses Obama. She lies through her teeth about being under sniper fire and thinks nothing of it, laughs off any legitimate criticism of her own lies, plays the strong leader, then blames the media and misogyny on why she is losing...I can see where Samantha Powers was coming from.

This is not about Hillary. Maybe the New York Times will report it. Are you suggesting we keep any secrets he might have because you think that's being loyal to him?

It's America's future we have to be loyal to. If it turns out there's something he hoped would never come out, I'd rather he lose to Hillary because of it than lose the country to eight more years in November.

I'm not in love with any of our candidates.
