Hillary Has TWO Mansions, Let the Bitter Eat Cake!
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 11:56 PM by Stephanie

What does she know from bitter? She lives like a Queen.

Meanwhile, she's been working hard to Outsource Our Jobs!

Bill's Westchester estate >

Hill's DC mansion >

The Neo-Georgian mansion in Washington is officially called Whitehaven, but it is already known by irreverent Democrats as the "White-House-in-Waiting" and "Fund-raising Central".

Now Hillary Clinton's elegant five-storey home is to become even more grandiose with a $900,000 (£488,880) expansion and refit in preparation for her expected run at the presidency. The work, including a 1,000 square foot extension, will create more space for the New York senator to hold money-spinning dinners and receptions.

Mrs Clinton bought the red-brick house with her husband Bill, the former President, in 2001 for $2.8 million. Now valued at $4.2 million, it sits on the secluded Whitehaven Street, behind the British embassy and residence of Sir David Manning, the ambassador, and is just along from the Naval Observatory of Dick Cheney, the vice-president.

74. $109 Million - is that what Jimmy Carter's worth too?
Ron Burkle alone has paid him $15M - for what? I'd like to know, but Bill's not saying. Burkle is going to pay him another $20M, as has been widely reported. Why? It's for their little Dubai based company Yucaipa, but we really don't know what Bill's contribution was. It wasn't capital. What was it?

70. Herman, can you read? And have you got anything else or is that IT.
Clinton also has her share of colleagues only too willing scrutinize her claims. Her campaign Web site describes Clinton's "successful effort to create" the popular State Children's Health Insurance Program during her husband's tenure in the White House, and she has placed herself in the middle of major international events, including the Northern Ireland peace process and the Balkan conflict.

But prominent Democratic senators, Irish historians and even Sinbad the comedian, who accompanied Clinton to Kosovo, are challenging some of her assertions.

During months of SCHIP negotiations in 1997, her name rarely surfaced in news accounts. Clinton never testified before Congress or held a news conference on the bill. When Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (Utah), the lead GOP negotiator of the children's health bill, heard reports that Clinton was depicting herself as SCHIP's main advocate, "I had to blink a few times," he said. Hatch said he doesn't recall a single conversation with Clinton about SCHIP, even a mention of her name. "If she was involved, I didn't know about it," he said.

"You know how she says, 'I started SCHIP'? Well, so did I," joked Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), one of the Democrats who pushed the bill across the finish line along with Kennedy. Both have endorsed Obama.

denies that the poor and middle class are not bitter.....oh no they have no reason to be bitter about anything. Everything is just hunky dory, happy go lucky with us. We don't have a care in the world.

We can pay our mortgage, pay our bills, buy groceries, buy gas. We have no trouble paying for anything we need in Hillary's world, because we are just all happy like.

She has no clue as to how to relate to the middle class. If she can't understand we are bitter about the situation America's economy is in, mainly in part due to a war that should have never been waged, she has no business leading us.

they all, just like Edwards, had and have empathy for the poor and middle class. Hillary does not, she only pretends too.

She couldn't even understand that people might be bitter.....she didn't ask if people were....she told them they weren't...they were happy with the way things were in other words.

Everything is just a bed of roses according to Hillary.

77. Not I.
I grew up in New Canaan, CT. I still think the Clinton's money is tainted. Try again.

20. Yeah, and until AFTER he left the White House
they NEVER OWNED a house, but don't let that little fact disturb you. Before that they lived in the Arkansas governor's "mansion" for what, 12 years. He made $35,000 a year as governor and she made $110,000 a year when they got into the White House. They had about $700,000 in assets when he was elected. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/moneymag_archive/1992/07/01/87389/index.htm

But, don't let a few facts deter your love for all things Obama.

23. For the residence of an ex-president, it doesn't seem too big...
...or too fancy on the outside.

it's pretty typical Chappaqua.

And, for Christ's sakes. It's CHAPPAQUA.

Now, if they lived in Bedford, OP might be on to something.

33. My news posting instinct compels me to post this pic of Obama's house.
I apologize, Stephanie -- not trying to weigh in one way or the other here in your thread. I just remembered posting an article in which a photo of the Obama house appeared. (And I feel somehow inadequate posting a photo at all in a thread of DU's master of photos. I love all of them, especially the Fitz series.)

Barack and Michele Obama bought this 6,400-square-foot, six-bedroom, six-bathroom house in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago in June 2005 for less than the asking price. (Boston Globe/Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images)

47. bought "for less than the asking price".....OMG!
I hate to break it to you in plain English. But rarely does ANYONE pay the asking price for a property, unless they are having the seller pay closing costs, etc. There is certainly nothing unusual about buying a property "for less than the asking price"!

Obama bought the property and, here is a candidate for the Duh! Award, his offer was the highest bid the seller received! Furthermore, it was an acceptable price or the seller would not have sold it to him!

So what on Earth are you trying to say?

I only ask you one thing....if you are to buy a house, would you pay full price for it, and not consider offering less?

75. I didn't caption the photo. It was captioned by the Boston Globe.
So any questions about what was meant by the caption should be directed there, although the story is not a current one.

Personally, I always would offer less than the asking price, but the last time we bought a house, in the recent boom days, sad to say, we paid asking, or maybe more!

:-(
