Why do some Clinton defenders here believe that Dems can only win...
...by abandoning Democratic values? Why do they believe we must hold our tongues about the truth in order to be elected?

6. Sounds like the the non-discussion of Obama Campaign's 6 major verified lies
NAFTA CHANGE THREAT OF KILLING NAFTA - DON'T WORRY TO CANADA -

SOCIAL PROGRAMS THAT WILL NOT PASS SO NO EFFECT ON BUDGET TO KUDLOW CNBC

OUT OF IRAQ IN 16 MONTHS - DON'T WORRY NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TO EU

REZKO I HARDLY KNEW - THEN 17 YEAR HISTORY OF MONEY TRANSFERS AND MENTORING

REV WRIGHT I NEVER HEARD - THEN IN THE "SPEECH" ADMITS HE KNEW OF THE STATEMENTS

THE 6TH LIE HAS ABOUT 20 POSSIBLE CHOICES AMONG THE REMAINING LARGE LIES - BUT I'LL JUST NOTE THE NO ONE CAN CONTROL SUPPORTERS AND I SHOULD BE JUDGED ON ONLY WHAT I - OBAMA - SAY - - SAID AFTER HE USED THE OPPOSITE TO PLAY THE RACE CARD AND SMEAR HILLARY AND BILL AS RACISTS

13. I can't believe Hillbots are still trying to spin that NAFTA/Canada thing.
When it was actually HILLARY who was caught telling the neocon Harper government that she really wouldn't be changing a damn thing. Not to mention that Bill & Mark Penn pretty much proved she was lying about the Colombia trade deal as well.

14. you appear to smear with no facts - the memo and the Can gov says Obama - & that Hillary never
contacted them.

Obama fans don't stop lying even when the facts are but a google away.

Good luck in the general if you think your stupid factless assertions will sell to either the media or the public.

18. newmajority, you sound just like a rethug in your posting style
Did you not read Skinner's thread about how to post to each other and what is acceptable and what is not? Calling Hillary supporters Hillbots is something Skinner posted a whole paragraph on. So, please would you refrain from using it. It's very much a republican expression.

4. The purpose of the DLC is to replace the Democratic party with a clone of the GOP.
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 12:34 AM by newmajority
They started out using the "frog in a pan of water" theory - slowly drag the party to the right a little at a time, so most won't notice. But once they had the excuse of "national security" (thanks to the PNAC engineered "New Pearl Harbor") they cranked up the heat and dropped all pretense.

And now that people have caught on to the scam, Hillary's trying to play "dumb" to the whole thing, claiming she was NEVER for the war, and NEVER for "free" trade.

5. Lakoff calls that a surefire formula for losing...
The losing strategy is to move to the right, to assume with Republicans that American values are mainly conservative and that the Democratic party has to move away from its base and adopt conservative values. When you do that, you help activate conservative values in people's brains (thus helping the other side), you offend your base (thus hurting yourself), and you give the impression that you are expressing no consistent set of values, which is true! Why should the American people trust somebody who does not have clear values, and who may be trying to deceive them about the values he and his party's base hold?

7. Because the DLC is LAZY
They've never had any interest in bringing new and absent voters to the polls. In order to do that, you have to get out there and organize and speak economic populism. Instead the DLC has been content to try robbing Repub votes by pandering to select issues.

Meh. I can't wait for the end of the DLC!

11. cross platform appeal - sounds like someone who can work with a wide range
of political views to actually get something done instead of gridlock

gee, isn't that what Obama says he wants to do? Of course he has no history of doing so.

That would be the Feingold of McCain Feingold?

12. No, it sounds like someone who's learned that the voters reward honesty.
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 01:40 AM by ClassWarrior
The Democrats who won Republican seats (in 2006) did so by running on progressive values. Swing voters, who have both sets of values, responded to their campaigns based on progressive values they authentically believed in.
