PRESS RELEASE:

The Compassion Forum: Live from Messiah College

Now more than ever, Americans motivated by faith are bridging ideological divides to address domestic and international poverty, global AIDS, climate change, genocide in Darfur, and human rights and torture. The Compassion Forum will provide the opportunity for candidates to discuss how their faith and moral convictions bear on their positions on these important issues

The Compassion Forum, is an unprecedented bipartisan presidential candidate forum dedicated to discussing pressing moral issues that bridge ideological divides within our nation. Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obama have accepted the invitation to participate in the Forum; Senator John McCain has thus far declined the invitation, which is still open. The Compassion Forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST on Sunday, April 13, at Messiah College in Grantham, PA and will be broadcast live by CNN. CNN Election Center anchor Campbell Brown will join Newsweek editor and Newsweek.com election anchor Jon Meacham to moderate the Forum, which will take place nine days prior to the Pennsylvania primary.

I think this discussion will be more important than any of the canned debates that the candidates have had, or will have. If you really want to know the soul of these folks, I think you need to watch this.

4. That would be hell, wouldn't it? Go negative in a compasion forum. Would not doubt it though.

3. I know Hillary and Obama are very religious however
The media hasn't really said anything about McCain's religion or how involved he is. I'm curious if he is very religious? Does anyone know anything about his faith?

5. Substance sinks like a rock around here. SAD. Guess I should of called one of our candidates a
liar. The downfall of this country, in my opinion, is being caused by appearances being more important to the American people than substance.

If we don't like where this country is going, I would suggest looking no further than in the mirror.

7. thanks....
for the heads up about this forum....it should be very interesting, hopefully some new and worthy topics will be considered.
I saw the Dalai Lama yesterday at a Seeds of Compassion forum, discussing the scientific research on the effects of compassion on the brain....fascinating stuff.

6. This will be very interesting in light of this latest dust-up about Obama's
remarks. I think it will give him a great opportunity to expand on his themes.

Also, if both of these candidates are smart, we'll see them make a concerted effort to go after McSame on some of these issues, especially poverty and torture. They both need to nail McSame's flip-flops to the wall and counter some of that neutral and positive press he's getting.

8. Seeds of Compassion
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 11:47 AM by ClayZ
(I think these Compassion Forums are going on all over the country.) Our two daughters will be in attendence with the Dalai Lama today. They teach at a Pre School. (Compassion in the air...I LIKE IT)
.......
A complete listing of Seeds of Compassion events and times can be found at: www.seedsofcompassion.org

<snip>
Educators, neuroscientists and other experts have long been examining the role compassion plays in early-childhood development and in communities. The explorations move into the public arena with the arrival of theexiled Tibetan Buddhist leader, the Dalai Lama.
The presence of one of the most respected religious leaders in the world would be a catalyst for change without the Seeds effort. But the combination of the Dali Lama's five-day stay in Seattle coupled with a series of high-profile events exploring compassion raises the impact significantly.
From large-setting forums such as at the Edmunson Pavilion on the University of Washington campus to in-home discussions, compassion promises to be the buzzword for the next week, at least. Schools such as the John Stanford International School in Seattle are using a newly created curriculum to teach compassion to their students. Schools can download the curriculum free.
The presence of Raj Manhas, the former superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, lends the grass-roots effort gravitas and ensures a youth-centered connection. This is good. Children are the future. If they grow up instilled with compassion, we're all better off.

Smart on his part not to show up to this maudlin non-event so two nasty people can prove they are compassionate. One a posuer, the other a hack. You pick.
