What is bad about saying people are bitter???
I am sorry, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what is bad about saying that. People are bitter, they are angry, they are furious, they are upset, devastated, etc.

Not being an Obama supporter, I am nevertheless impressed with the reality of this statement, as opposed to the "people are optimistic" that Hillary is saying, which unfortunately in my mind echoes GW's "I'm an optimist" statement in front of the Iraq/Afghanistan disaster, or the disaster-in-waiting of the US economy.

Don't we want our eyes to be open?
Aren't we tired of the forced "Good Ole USA" approach to life after 8 years of militarized corporatist fascism??

I hope people are bitter...they should be! If you're not upset or angry, you must be asleep!

However, if someone can explain to me why it is bad to say people are bitter, then I might understand it better.

1. It's the guns+religion combo. But he's going to turn this around anyway.

3. See Skinner's post. It's not the 'bitter' part that's trouble. It's the
characterization of how people play out that bitterness that could be offensive.

4. Saying they bash immigrants because they're bitter is bad...
...trying to paint people with such a broad brush is bad.

People are angry and frustrated with the economy and with Washington...focus on that, on the cause, not on the people themselves.

For the life of me, I cannot comprehend how people cannot understand that these words were very poorly chosen. Incredible blunder...he could have made a good point instead of shooting himself int he foot.

5. Obama said much more than that
he also accused them of being gun loving, right wing religious zealots who were too clueless to know they should admire a great messiah like Obama who will ... well then again, he probably won't do a damn thing for them if he's elected.

Obama doesn't like these people, its very clear. He thinks they're all closet KKK members just because they're caucasians. His remarks were just a reflection of his agreement with the divisive teachings of Rev. Wright. Quite simply, his remarks about Pennsylvanians showed Obama is a bigot.

13. I'm hopeful, because Clinton will win PA
and we'll have a Democrat to represent us who actually cares about what happens to people.

15. She Will Win
and as you know all to well, if it's not a big win, it won't help Sen. Clinton much. Sorry, but that's the reality of proportional vs winner take all.

Now we can be deeply bitter and divided come November, or we can support our candidate. Whether it be Clinton or Obama, the country will have a candidate who "actually" cares about people, or we will have another republican who doesn't.

I will support the democratic candidate come November, will you?

11. The news media keeps bringing up the word "bitter" and ignoring
the part about guns and god. Every time they play it on the radio they mention he called voters "bitter". I haven't been watching the TV news but radio news is focusing on the "bitter" part of the comments.

9. We need a "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" movement
People ARE mad as hell at the direction our country has taken. We DO need to stand up and speak out. We need to crush the Republicans who got us into this mess. We need to change the way government works. We need jobs, not better bottom line figures for investors. We need affordable health care. We need to replace our crumbling infrastructure. We need to invest in schools, not prisons. I'm mad as hell! and I'm not going to take it anymore!

10. OK, I think I see it in more contexts now,
even though I could not find Skinner's post.

Looking at his remarks in more depth, I see that he is explaining guns, more religion and xenophobia, (and probably rejection of himself by some people in PA), with bitterness about the false promises of various governments.
One might disagree on the causes of turning to guns, religion and xenophobia (if he means religious fanaticism), but in my view the statement is still OK.
How does one explain the KKK for example, if not bitterness against something? Better to try to explain, than to inflame.

A lot of noise about nothing if you ask me...

This from a Kucinich supporter...:)
