WTF Happened to DU While I Was Gone
"Nobody is looking out for you. Nobody is thinking about you. And so people end up- they don't vote on economic issues because they don't expect anybody's going to help them. So people end up, you know, voting on issues like guns, and are they going to have the right to bear arms. They vote on issues like gay marriage. And they take refuge in their faith and their community and their families and things they can count on. But they don't believe they can count on Washington."

Haven't we been criticizing Bush for the past seven years for using wedge issues to distract people from the real problems we are facing? And what is so awful about saying people take refuge in their faith and families? I just don't get how any DUer can be critical of these comments.

Was I just dreaming?

3. It's an infestation here today.
The HillaryClintonForum.net types are everywhere on DU today.

Of course Obama was right in the point he was making. This too shall pass. The Hillary backers are overreaching, as they always do. Next they will be telling us everything is great, and Barack is the sole problem facing this country.

Won't wash.

5. My ignore list keeps me smiling
I'm new and saw it from the moment I got in... I think it was worse then... people have been reporting the nastier racist stuff.

I think my ignore list will evaporate when we have our nominee...

If I supported Clinton, I would be ashamed to be seen siding with some of our more obvious trolls.

I found a pro-obama, vaguely anti-semitic post and got on it like a "duck on a june bug."

I wouldn't tolerate shit like that from anyone, on either side of the Democratic Primary Race.

9. Comprehension is evidently difficult, but the ability to spin is not.
Obama said:

And they take refuge in their faith and their community and their families and things they can count on.

There is nothing in that statement which indicates that there is anything awful about people taking refuge in their faith or families. The implication is that they do so because they feel helpless as a result:

But they don't believe they can count on Washington.

So people can count on their faith and families, but they cannot count on Washington or the government to help them. That's what happens when people are faced with the cold, stark reality of the Republican motto: "You are on your own". Ask the people of New Orleans, they know about that. While Rome burns, or New Orleans drowns, Bush strums a guitar and has a good old time. You become bitter as you watch yourself, your family, your home and dreams sink when there are untold billion$ for bombs and bullets, but very little to help you.

14. Definition of a Wedge Issue
from teh Wikipedia:

A wedge issue is a social or political issue, often of a divisive or otherwise controversial nature, which splits apart or creates a "wedge" in the support base of one political group. Wedge issues can be advertised, publicly aired, and otherwise emphasized by an opposing political group, in an attempt to weaken the unity of the divided group, or to entice voters in the divided group to give their support to the opposing group. The use of wedge issues gives rise to wedge politics.

Really, it's amazing, isn't it? DU has morphed even more than the New Clintons. It's fuckin' frustrating.

Read this... it helped. Like tonic, and gin. :-)
