"You have all these economically insecure white people who are scared to death."
"{They're} are telling these people. 'You're right. I won't do anything for you. Government can't do anything for you. But at least I won't do anything to you . . .

"You know, {they} want to divide us over race . . . This . . . deal they're gonna pull in the next election is the same old scam they've been pulling on us for decade after decade after decade. When their economic policies fail, when the country's coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them . . .

"They know if they can keep us looking at each other across a racial divide, if I can look at {a black person} and think, {he} wants my job, my promotion, then neither of us can look at {them} and say, 'What happened to everybody's job? What happened to everybody's income? What ... have ... you ... done ... to ... our ... country?'"

Agree, disagree? Is this elitism? Is it race-baiting? Or is it just straight talk?

Discuss.

1. Plain straight talk
I look for the anti-Obama parsers to be along any minute to explain to me how I'm totally wrong, and up is down.

14. Surprised they haven't all flocked in yet to deposit their guano.
Maybe the fax machine jammed and they haven't been able to get their talking points yet. Matter of time, I guess.

15. They're all back -- along with the new fake Obama supporter wrinkle
The old Hillary supporters angle must have gone stale.

16. Good point.
It's remarkable how many sockpuppets are now disillusioned former Obama supporters. Looks like the senator has lost the sockpuppet vote. Probably due to his intemperate anti-textile remarks or his minister's well-documented hatred of socks. That's my guess.

2. This is the truth. The ruling class have been using wedge issues to divide us for a long time.
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 07:02 PM by sparosnare
It's not about race, guns, religion - it's about class. If the fat cats are successful in using fear to divide us (no matter what the issue), they win. Obama is 100% correct.

8. "Go be afraid of those brown people over there while I pick your pocket."
It's worked so well for the GOP, the Clinton campaign has adopted it as their own.

10. That's as straight as talk gets.
Couldn't be any plainer. And America seems to be in the mood for this kind of discussion.

11. The phrase "white people" does not, in and of itself, constitute race-baiting...
... or "reverse racism", no matter how much white people like to pretend that it does.

18. Obama says he regrets impact of his remarks about "bitter" small-town Americans
In the interview, Obama was asked whether he would apologize to small-town Americans who were offended by his quote in San Francisco.

Obama said: "Well look, if there - obviously, if I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that.

20. Sort of like how Hillary "regretted" if
anyone was offended by Bill's comments in South Carolina? She didn't say he was wrong, didn't apologize for anything he said - just said she "regretted" it if anyone was offended.

Just as Obama did. He did not say he was wrong. Because he wasn't. He just said it in a way that is now being used by some people who either don't or don't want to understand what he's talking about as an excuse for fake outrage and political potshots we're seeing from certain quarters.

You know who you are - you're the same people who are the first to deny the existence of racism and will jump all over anyone who DARES to suggest that any white person who not wearing a hood and burning.a cross might be less than sensitive on any race-realted issue - only to turn around and scream "RACISM" at the top of your lungs at the merest hint that a black person thinks otherwise.

22. More hater lies...."bitter" small-town Americans

"bitter" small-town Americans.... why are you intentionaly leaving out the at government part of what was said?

Obama was talking about issues voters who are bitter with government.

Why leave that part out unless you know you are trying to distort what he said and who he was talking about?
