Canvassing Report
Went Canvassing today. Weather was good so the not home percentage was probably twice as much as usual. It doesn't matter that much. We are in pretty good shape from all the hard work the team I'm on put in over the past 3 weeks. Knocked on about 70 doors and found 2 O supporters and 2 Clinton supporters. 4 undecideds. The undecideds were a lot more chatty today than usual. Wanted my take on the entire Bitter episode.

I did my best to explain things. My explanation was that the Senator was trying to convey that people had given up on getting economic help from the Federal Government because of what has happened in the past 25 years in this country with 3 GOP presidents and one Democratic President with a republican congress for most of his tenure. They vote on candidates on issues that they think will be addressed like gun laws etc because their economic issues have not been addressed in a long time. It wasn't a slap at the small towns more of an understanding on why we have trouble as democrats with those areas.

I said real positive things about Bill Clinton's presidency (I'm an Obama supporter but in the end we need a democratic president) and that being President isn't enough sometimes. Sometimes you need a congress behind you that supports your agenda. I talked about Senator Obama's committment to helping downstream candidates while he's running for President. I talked about how Obama probably won't be able to get every agenda item passed (no President can) but that he would try for us and be honest with us when he's President.

Overall they seemed happy with the conversation and agreed they'd watch the Senator closely over the next few days to see how he handles the heat.

1. Thank you, Jake! You sound like a wonderful surrogate for Obama.
And thanks for hitting the streets so often, and being such a positive advocate for Senator Obama!

8. Yeah, It Was A Nice Day To Be Out Today...
I really like the targeted canvassing too. I just wish we'd have had even longer to work on the independents.

9. We did good
400,000 new democrats. Almost a 10% increase in the electorate. Most of that were the independents.

10. Brief canvassing update from Philly...
1). Got to meet John Conyers today. Have pics and will post them tomorrow.

2). My canvassing partner and I knocked on about 300 doors today. Things are shaping up very nicely for Obama here in Philly.

I'm freaking exhausted, but we're going back out tomorrow. I'll do an end of week canvassing recap sometime tomorrow.
