I am really looking forward to the debate this week
If this whole manufactured "bitter" business came up after the debate then it would be harder for Obama to deal with it. Perhaps that was what the Clinton camp was holding it for, to release after the debate and closer to the primary, but they had to jump the gun because on Friday:

1) Hillary could not or would not answer a question that could have easily been predicted to be asked of her. I mean your husband and your bank account benefit directly from a cause you oppose, and you have given money to your campaign, and your top strategist also works for this cause, but you don't know someone will want you to comment on it? Will this non-answer be standard when you are president?

2)Bill lied about her lies. Has he not heard of youtube yet? really?

3)Bill said something that could be construed as racist again- stealing cars? I mean c'mon.

All on Friday. They had to release their secret weapon early so all of the weekend shows wouldn't be talking about this non-stop.

They sat on it for a week, had bumper stickers and buttons prepared ahead of time because it was such a big thing for them. This is their big campaign strategy? Take something out of context, an inartful phrase in a sentence that anyone hearing or reading the paragraph would know exactly what he meant which was something not offensive? This is the best they have? It's the worst of political games and is not enough to run with in the long term and maybe not even the short term even. Why? Because he isn't an elitist, he wasn't insulting anyone and when faced with this question in a debate he can make this clearer to people than before this manufactured controversy happened in the first place. If this is their best then things are good for the Obama campaign I think.

At the debate she'll have to say this to his face, the question will be brought up by someone, and on a national level, in real-time not edited by biased media that wants the controversy for ratings, he can respond. And when he does it will be clear that he has nothing to hide, nothing to fear and is actually really understanding people and wants to fight for their real problems. And she'll say something stupid and empty about optimism and hard-work but it won't fly in comparison. Side by side the truth will be obvious.

To quote H20man quoting Elijah Muhammed: You place a filthy glass of water and a clean glass of water in front of a thirsty man and he will always make the right choice. Obama will clearly be that clean glass of water in the debate.

I can't tell you how sad it is for me that the Clintons seem toxic now. I used to love them, Bill especially. This afternoon he will be 15 minutes from my house and I will not attend. If you told me a year ago I would feel this way I wouldn't have believed you. Now, I'm watching the Masters and I will not regret a thing.

2. Agree on the first post, not the second...
and...I cannot wait to see what sarcastic one liners her consultants will come up with this time.
I'm betting they will throw something in to soften her image, but that it will fall flat like mashed potatoes.

4. I love it when they choreograph gestures to go with her prepared statements
How many times did she mime throwing her bookbag across the room? I predict at least one, I have tears in my voice but not eyes moment of compassion from her. And one Carville-esque one liner with an outdated reference like xerox in it. She will never concede that he wasn't being elitist. They never back off from a talking point like that, but he will be predicting that and will delight us with a response. Like when he shrugged off the semantic crap of rejecting but not denouncing. Fine I do both-yawn! One on one I don't think she can beat him now. I can't wait to see, she actually made it more interesting now.

15. There's a "Compassion Forum" on CNN tonight-about faith, religion, etc., and the "bitter"
comment WILL come up (since he said something about people "clinging to religion." I'm just getting ready to roll my eyes if/when she is asked about what got her through "tough times" in her life and she starts tearing up or pretending to sound emotional.

17. And he'll be there too?
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 12:27 PM by Marnieworld
If so fantastic! We don't have to wait until Wednesday for him to make this nonsense go away. Well at least for most people. There are those that will never let anything go away because it's all they have.

on edit: looked it up and he will be. Wowsa! This should be good.

I wish he would mention The Fellowship if she brings up Reverend Wright. I think having a church that believes that God is deciding who wins office is more offensive to me. Not just the arrogance but the separation of Chuch and State offense. But he probably won't.

I wonder why they are doing this? On this issue they seem to be on the same page. Though I haven't heard Hillary be as inclusive as he has been towards non-believers. I think she is more right than he is on this topic but they both have to be walking on eggshells. Religion is just so touchy.

18. Yup-Hillary and Obama will both be there, each on the stage seperately.
Campbell Brown and John Meacham will be hosting and Brown already said this subject WILL come up to BOTH candidates.

21. Separately? I bet that's a good thing.
Such a delicate topic should not be overshadowed by bickering.

Well that still give him time to get his message out in a very calm way and still gives the debate to have some sparks.

It is on at the worst timeslot of the week I think. Sunday night at 8? Opposite Yankees red Sox and then John Adams? I may have to Tivo the later repeat if there is one and I actually am in the small demographic who cares about this stuff enough to watch. And I didn't even know about it until you told me to. Yep it would control the spin enough that Wednesday it will still be going.
