Clinton: 'Not relevant' last time I went to church, fired gun
Posted: 05:00 PM ET

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small town Americans.

“We can answer that some other time,” Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class neighborhood here. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?”

~snip~

Pressed on whether she truly believes Obama is an elitist, Clinton called him “a good man,” but recalled the narratives of the 2000 and 2004 president election.

“You don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as being elitist and out of touch with the values and lives of millions of Americans,” she said.

So she admits to using the same smears used to smear Gore and Kerry.

Yeah, it's divisive and she is the one being divisive.

1. So she is saying that the "elitist" attacks on Gore and Kerry were justified?
Wow, the trifecta. She gets to insult Obama, Gore, and Kerry all at the same time. She seems to be in full-blown DLC mode now.

it's okay to use that smear - it took down good men then, it will work again now.

16. HRC has herself made many many comments that resulted in the same furor
The fact is that her husband's actions are in part responsible for that perception. Both Gore and Kerry are good men and that fact of the matter is that if there were a survey, I would bet that contrary to Clinton claims, more people would vote that Kerry and Gore likely go to church more often and that their religion is more likely to guide their actions.

In fact, in 2006, Senator Kerry spoke at Pepperdine University, a conservative evangelical school on how his religion informs his views. The speech was very well received even by students, unlikely to vote for a Democrat, much less a liberal one. A religious studies major at a Jesuit college who I know commented that he was more religious and that religion was more traditional Catholic (post Vatican 2) than she would have expected.) I have also heard Kerry speak of the Shia and Sunni and not only does he not confuse them he is able to speak intelligently on their believes and culture.

I doubt that HRC could command the same respect or exhibit the same spirit of reaching out to the other side that Kerry did here. From the forum yesterday, I think that in spite of her attending her Family Bible Study, she has nowhere near the level of scholarship on this that Kerry did. http://www.pepperdine.edu/pr/releases/2006/september/kerry.htm

5. the disgusting thing is that Gore and Kerry won the working class , lower income voters
but their problem was with just what Obama was saying. the Republicans tried to get many of these people to vote based on guns, religion etc. if they vote on those issues they are going to vote Republican.

there were many articles from 2004 with people being conflicted between Kerry and Bush because they supported Kerry for economic reasons and Bush for God and guns.

Hillary is pushing the lies with her shit.

maybe she shouldn't run since republicans will bring up Clinton's BJ. this turned off a lot of religious conservatives. and it extends to all the Democrats who supported Clinton back then, the way Clintons refuse to do for other Democrats.

they aren't worried Obama will lose. they are hoping he loses. they want to believe that ONLY THEY can win that they are willing to trash other Democrats including using right wing talking points.

14. Senator Kerry and his wife are practicing Catholics,
who do go to church on Sunday. This is primarily known as in one article in 2004, there was a mention that his staffers made a point of calling churches to insure that he would be welcome and that he would not be refused communion. I heard many of the answers to yesterday's "debate" and frankly - Kerry would have beat both of them on religion. If you have any doubt go to the end of this video to the Q & A. It is a speech on how religion informs public policy and it was given at the conservative evangelical Pepperdine College to very good response. I suggest the Q&A because I know someone could question if he wrote the speech - which he did. These evangelicals found Senator Kerry to be very respectful - I doubt HRC would have the guts to speak on religion at such a place. (It does make believable that Kerry at 10 or 11 wanted to be a Priest.) http://www.pepperdine.edu/pr/releases/2006/september/kerry.htm

I may be very wrong, but I would bet that Kerry who actually has hunted - when there is no campaign - is far better marksman than either HRC or McCain.

8. Hillary Clinton is not a person of integrity or honor. Why anyone would
want her in the oval office is beyond me. She is shameless and without a moral compass.

Piss off, Hillary.

12. "We can answer that some other time." No, you need to answer that question today!
Because we aren't going to elect a cackling witch for President.

Is that how you intend to handle the White House Press Corps - just cackle your ass off?

It won't work.

We need some serious answers to some serious questions.
