Obama on Clinton in Pa: "Shame on her. Shame on her."
STEELTON, Penn. (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama lashed out Sunday at rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, mocking her sudden vocal support for gun rights and saying he understands the concerns of working class people.

"She knows better. Shame on her. Shame on her," Obama told an audience at a union hall here.

<snip>
After reiterating his regret for his choice of words, Obama turned the tables on Clinton - mocking, among other things, her sudden fealty to the rights of gun owners.

"She is running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsman, how she values the second amendment. She's talking like she's Annie Oakley," Obama said, invoking the famed female sharpshooter immortalized in the musical "Anne Get Your Gun."

Obama continued, saying "Hillary Clinton is out there like she's on the duck blind every Sunday. She's packing a six-shooter. Come on, she knows better. That's some politics being played by Hillary Clinton."

Wow.

My father has been a registered republican since he could vote. He lives in Bucks County. He's bitter at the current administration for fucking things up and lying incessantly (he voted for Bush in 2000 not 2004). He will be voting Obama over the republican clone McSame or the republican-lite Clinton. Did I mention he's bitter? He agrees that everyone he knows...all middle-class retirees who are living well...are bitter about the crap that our current administration has pulled. The real outrage is that Bush is not behind bars.

105. When Hillary said "Shame on you" she was serious and angry.
Talking TO Obama.

Obama used her own words, changed it to "Shame on her". He didn't direct from himself TO her, but TO the audience. He did it with a wry smile. It reminded everyone of her public scolding, and effectively threw it back at her.

118. Somehow I don't think either of them really meant it.
They are both politicians, and you can take anything they say with a grain of salt. It's important to the punters, though.

As for me, I liked it when Obama used sarcasm to good effect in his "Annie Oakley" comments. That was fun, and I wish public figures did that sort of thing more, because we get more of a glimpse into the quickness of their minds, the essential nature of their characters, and what they really think. For once, I'd like a politician on the stump or during a televised debate to say, "You know, that's just a load of horseshit and you know it." Or, "That was a completely moronic thing to say." Or, "Mr President, you are not fooling anybody with that phony buddy-buddy crap." Or, to the press: "Guess what? What I do in my personal life is none of your business, and what you do is none of mine. If you'd like, I can dig into your past and tell the world about it at my next event. Next question..." Politicians, take the damned gloves off, you craven cowards! Real people speak their minds, and real people will cast their votes for a real person if they are offered that choice.

John Kerry should have destroyed the Swiftboaters and left their smoking, fly-attracting carcasses to rot in the sun. But he didn't, and that was chickenshit of him. And when the "October Surprise" of bin Laden's tape surfaced, instead of saying, "Well, I think that blah blah blah blah blah blah and furthermore blah blah blah" for five minutes, all he needed to do was say, "Ah yes, Osama bin Laden -- George Bush's little family friend!", turn on his heel, and walk out with no questions from the press. I bet that would have been the headline in every major newspaper and his approval rating would have gone up about five points. Of course, the Republicans would start screaming about the decline in the level of political discourse (or grunts to that effect), and the pundits would say it was a horrible mistake for Kerry to say such a thing, at which point Kerry could have told them all, "You know that I'm right, so shove it." And then his poll numbers would have shot up another five points.

You would rather seem him red faced and shaking her fist like Hillary did? Least he has a sense of humor.

She's so transparent when she tries to pander--comparing herself to Rocky in Philadelphia, posing with mariachi bands in the Southwest...my God, does she ever have an original thought?

Good on Obama for calling her on this newest bout of faux-outrage.

Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 09:37 PM by Skip Intro

Sounds like someone who can dish it out but can't take it.

Attacking her instead of facing the music lays bare the substance of this candidate.

"After reiterating his regret for his choice of words" - he apologizes for his words while defending them by attacking Hillary.

This from the guy who began his campaign by calling her repuke-lite.

Says a lot about his actual substance.

Pathetic.
