5. I tivo'd it and am just now watching
I am playing poker online, so I was half paying attention, and when he said that I was like, "what did I hear that right" I was really glad I could click back and listen to it over and over and over and over.

27. Truly. Does Gore even say it out loud?
I know Kerry won't say publicly that it happened to him.

31. I don't know but I bet that
made Gore feel good having a Democratic candidate for the Presidency like Obama saying it right out loud on cnn!

Reality lives!

15. It was in response
to a question about science and faith. It really didn't have much to do with Al Gore, which is why I was even more impressed with how he threw it in there. I am sure that there will be a video of it soon.

32. Exactly. He was more or less saying Hillary can throw him under the bus all she wants,
but those of us who are REAL Democrats know Gore is one of the finest we've got, and on top of that, he by all rights won the presidency.

17. From my perspective
he handled them well. Not the kind of things that I think even merit discussion in a Presidential election. But I know I am in the minority of non-religious people in this country.

It was like walking on a tightrope which I thought he did fairly well. He didn't seem to offend them and he didn't offend me. No small feat IMHO.

18. I agree with you
and I am a deeply faithful person, but I don't think religion should be anywhere near a Presidential election.

20. Faith was a gift
that was not given to me. My family has priests, nuns and some other fundamentalist believers. All those years of Catholic school, whatever was supposed to happen just didn't with me. I don't put down other people's beliefs; I just don't share them.

I understand that faith is important and also know that these days candidates have to be professing beliefs (that I think should be private) out on the public square to be evaluated and scrutinized and criticized and condemned. It makes me very uncomfortable that politics has come to this.

If this is what they have to do, so be it. I wish it were not the case. We should be electing someone who is about good government, not good religion.

23. Unfortunatly many people do not
have experience with people who have a true faith and relationship with God. bush has really given Christian's a bad name, and it really saddens me. Someone who has a true Christian understanding is a very caring person, and is very concerned with the suffering of others. It shouldn't be politicized.

I was impressed that Obama made it clear that the US is not just a Christian nation, but is is a nation of Muslims, Buddists, etc, and even non-believers, and that the President should be able to encapsulate all of those religions. He even said that someone that felt they had a direct line to God, and that their thinking was always right was very un-democratic.

28. Well, if you don't run out the clock with vapid responses
you'll have time for more questions and that should lead to a wider and more difficult set of queries. Think he did quite well.

30. He's so goddamn brilliant.
It's kind of amazing to watch him. He slipped that in, in the perfect context (climate), to refute the appalling statement by Clinton that Gore "lost" because of the perception that he was "elitist." She's despicable, and he is all class. I am going to be so proud to vote him into office.

Please spend a little time in the Elections Forum and learn something before you make yourself look foolish again.

41. K&R He gets it!
Everytime Obama speaks, he shows that he understands. The things that we have seen here, the things we have screamed over, the thing that we keep thinking will be the final straw, yet the politicians keep going on same old same old. Obama is a rare and wonderful thing. Obama is a statesman!
