A note to anxious Obama supporters.
Ive seen a lot of posts lately written in an urgent tone regarding the continued candidacy of Hillary Clinton. Posters are denouncing her, calling for her to drop out, and accusing her of spoilerhood.

Personally I understand the sentiment. I think Hillary's candidacy is moribund, and I will not miss this primary season when it is behind us.

Now having said that, let me make a bold suggestion:

Relax. Do some yoga, pop some corn, and watch our class act candidate handle himself amazingly.

As agitated as I am about sitting through weeks of Hillary Clinton kitchen sink/scorched earth nastiness, I have yet to see any evidence that it has hurt Obama. In fact http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/03/pennsylvania-primary-poll_n_94943.html">recent polls that I've seen have him running nearly even with Clinton in PA, a supposed Clinton stronghold, and leading her by double didgets nationally.

http://themoderatevoice.com/politics/democratic-party/18874/obama-has-10-point-lead-over-clinton-in-gallup-daily-tracking/

The Wright incident could have ended a lesser candidate, and yet here Obama is in much the same situation he was before the media blitz.

So relax. Try not to let Hillary's vitriol mudbath bother you too much. If it wasn't her it would be McCain, and eventually it will be. I think if we are rational, most of us know the conclusion of the primary season, and who is really going to be worse off for all the infighting.

1. Look at the General election polls
McCain was losing badly a couple months ago. Now he's tied or leading.

And he's getting away with no scrutiny from the media, while both Dems get attacked.

And the attacks have more weight now because Democrats are being split whenever one of these controversies happens. If the nominee was decided, Hillary and all the Dems would be defending Obama on this instead of attacking him.

4. The ONLY reason McCain is tied in the "polls" is that he is getting
no scrutiny.

have you listened to him, lately??

There's lots of time if she leaves after Pa.

7. You really think she'll defend him?
Remember the half assed support the clintoons gave Kerry in '04. They did not want to see him get elected cause he would have been running as an incumbent in 08 which would have kept her out of the race.

My guess is she'll give some sort of lip service faint praise and then cross her fingers that he loses so she can run in 2012.

Not that it'll matter - if she doesn't begin acting with some dignity she'll become a national joke.

10. I spent most of my yout in several places in the county
It's still gods country to me but the air in that part of the valley has got pretty bad and we've put down a lot of roots where we live now. We're in the sierra foothills north of Fresno.

There's a couple other people here that either lived in or had folks living in Visalia.

11. Maybe not, but even if she stays on the sideline
It'll be a huge improvement from what she's doing now, which is to actively attack our eventual nominee.

17. I expect her to mostly shut up once she has been sidelined.
I think she will find that she values her job in the senate enough to do that.

2. Its fun watching him respond to every issue. I am not worried about it anymore.
Remember when it would take weeks before we would hear from Kerry about the attacks on him?
It would take FOREVER for his campaign to figure out what to do.

OBAMA is on it. FAST.

12. Here's a great quote about Obama from an unlikely source:
I'm not betting against him. You know why? He's not afraid. And by jettisoning fear as the lodestar of liberalism, he is doing us all a favor, right and left. Man, he cheers me up:

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/04/the-audacity--1.html

Fearless. That's how he appears. And that's what we need. Someone who is not afraid of the Clinton's won't be afraid of McSame.

13. I hope she stays in the race longer...
1) To have something good to laugh at
2) To keep Democrats dominating the press
3) To give Obama good practice.

14. another reason
She takes what her campaign thinks might be an opening, and makes her self look like a clown.

Here's what's generally happened.

When Obama makes a mistake, he does well to fix it, and she makes herself look like a clown.

When she makes a mistake, she blows it and makes herself look like a clown.

16. strongly disagree
Though I admire your optimism, it's become clear that she is doing McCain's work for him. Staking out ground for the Repubs to exploit. Pre-qualifying it as legit, since even fellow Dems said it. Disgusting.

I don't begrudge her the right to compete, or to stay in the race. But I've seen no vision out of her, and the attacks she makes on Obama are rarely if ever based on any real policy issues where she offers a better alternative.

Her message is so bankrupt, negativity is all she has. She should get on board and do nothing but promote the Dem's positive message for a better future, and if she does, and the voters believe she's the best vehicle to get to that future, she will be the nominee.

Colbert made a great joke the other day. He was talking about a fishing technique where they drop explosives in the water to see if any dead fish float to the top, then said it was kinda like the Clinton campaign. So sad, and so true.

Obama was my 4th choice this election, behind Gore, Dennis, and Edwards. However, the more I see of him, the more I like him. It's incredibly painful to watch Hillary dumping so much garbage on him, each time she does it feels like a punch to the stomach, my own stomach. Enough already. Almost none of it is based on anything real, she's just looking for any angle to exploit to her personal advantage.

I saw a woman in Pennsylvania interviewed today about who she likes for pres. She likes Hillary, and if Hillary doesn't win, she'll vote for McCain. OMG. Why? She said something to the effect that Obama is all about words, just words, and it will take more than that to lead this country. There you have it. She's internalized one of the many misleading and substantively wrong attacks the Clintons have leveled against Obama. I don't find anything empty about Obama and his words, in fact I can't believe we actually have a candidate this real, who can actually get people behind him, and that actually has a chance of winning.

I tell you, the Clinton attacks are all garbage, and it really does make a difference in people's perceptions and in their receptivity to upcoming Republican attacks.

18. I would stop well short of saying Clinton's campaign is an advantage
Its another obstacle for Obama to overcome. And you may be right that there is a certain group of Hillary supporters that won't ever warm to Obama.

On the other hand the democrats had much higher turnouts for the primaries on their side. We have excitement and motivation this time. And their candidate makes gaffes about 100 years in Iraq and not knowing anything about the economy.

I see Hillary as a hurdle to, and understand your sentiment, I just think Obama will clear it without ceding too much track to McCain.
