CNN: "I'm a die-hard Republican, but I have to say this year things are going to be
a little different".

<snip>

"The party is going to be upset with me, but I feel that we need a change."

Small town PA. The Republicans are slowly waking up out of the stupor of Reagan's lies and are going to give it a shot for the Democrats. No these are not Rash Limpball's ditto heads out to change their registration to skew the Democratic primary and then change back (the registration deadline has already passed). Apparently some are afraid to change their registration yet thinking they will be ostracized (just as the couple in the article are afraid to put up an Obama lawn sign), although they know deep down many other repukes in their town feel the same way. They are coming out of their denial and it's all but guaranteed they WILL cross over and vote for a Democrat this November. It will be something to see. These are the forgotten people that the Democratic Party ceded to the repukes and it's time to get them back.

The same types exist here in the rim counties of SE PA who are finally getting the message. No the "Welfare Queens" did not close your steel plants or take your manufacturing jobs away and off-shore them. No, the immigrants didn't raise the price of oil to $3.50/gallon. The party you supported for decades did that to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

And yes they ARE bitter, but they are being shown the way out of it.

1. Very nice.
This story makes me sad and hopeful at the same time. I'm sad that people have been down so long, but hopefully we can all find a way out of this mess. Thanks for sharing the link.

2. "These are the forgotten people...."~~~I vehemently oppose this characterization.

THIS contradicts the above, and IS accurate: "They are coming out of their denial...."

These morons dumped the Democrats for Nixon during the VietNam conflict. Hated "hippies" and all that. They are properly called "Nixon Democrats", not "Reagan".

They pulled out of their stupor a bit (Carter), but quickly became deluded enough again to think a senile old actor-turned-Governor would make them "proud to be an American" (1980 Olympics, "USA! USA!").

They took the Clinton years for granted, and let "scandals" rule the waves.

Now, as after the Depression, as after Korea, as after VietNam, Watergate, Iran/Contra, and now during Iraq and recession, they want a Democrat to make it all better.

I wonder how long this will last.

4. we lib lefties have to put it in dollar terms
the sneaky anti-semite/racism of grandad is ok but the cost of allowing bandits to drive the stagecoach (so they don't have to rob it, just 'drive away' with it lol!) should never be allowed again. The rightwingers are bandits who must obtuse the issue and confound the meaning of words etc just in order to sit at the table- they must promote the priority of 'privilege of the few' over 'the needs of the many' so they must be dishonest or else get tossed out like wined up debutantes. And how many generation have to be tormented with prefabricated poverty before they just stop allowing the pre- fabricators to take power over them?
they want to elect mccane in '08, if at all possible...but being robbed again, by same buncha sissies!
tough decision...
