"antipathy to people who aren't like them "
Am I the only one reminded of the Reverend Wright? I didn't know he was from a small town in Pennsylvania. Learn something new every day...........

1. go read the rude pundit piece just posted and try and learn something
and what does this have to do with Wright aside from your wanting to somehow drag him into this. Fucking pathetic.

3. Yep, the Hillbots are dragging "bitter" into every thread, and now Wright too
Pathetic that they REALLY think this truth-telling is going to somehow turn
everything upside down ...

4. I'm just connecting dots
If anyone has expressed antipathy towards people not like him, its the good Reverend Dr. Wright. Clearly he's a gun-totin', immigrant-hatin' Pennsylvanian. Probably has a still hidden in his basement too.

11. You didn't hear a bit of antipathy in those sermons?
Just a tad? Just a wee bit? You think he was railing against people.... like him???

14. I heard him railing against racists.
So no, he was railing against people who were different then him.

But I'm not sure why you think we should be empathisizing with racists.

18. It really doesn't matter anyway now, does it?
Clearly the only reason Rev. Wright is holding so closely onto religion is because he is...well...of course.....there's that word again.... bitter.

13. Gosh
"spewing hateful shit"?? goodness....you sound... bitter. Do you live in Pennsylvania too?

And "genius"?? you overestimate me. I haven't quite made it into Mensa yet.

Obama sat in the pews for years listening to a guy just like what he described. Its just ironic, thats all.

16. I doubt you know anything about Wright beyond the soundbites
played over and over for American idiots. There was an excellent post the other day by, of all people, Lannie Davis, which included a letter sent to him, explaining Wright and Obama's relationship with him, from an AA friend of Lannie's.

And no, I live in Vermont, and I'm not bitter. But stupid always pisses me off.

28. One thing I have noticed about some of the Obamaites..
NOOOO sense of humor at ALL. Do NOT mess with their candidate. You are "spewing hateful shit" if you say ANYTHING bad about him. They're strident. They're annnnngry. If you don't agree with them at every turn you are clueless!!!!

How's that kool-aid tasting? (you might want to just sip it slow .... the bad stuff kind of settles to the bottom)

8. Yes, in both cases Obama's empathizing with disparate experiences
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 03:23 PM by CK dexter
It's very much like his response to Wright: he won't disown Wright because he understands where his anger, sometimes justified and sometimes over the line, comes from. In this comment Obama was trying to explain a different world to the urban western middle class, trying to give them some sense of the experience of these voters, and how it affects their votes. He's not condescending to rural voters, just as he did not condescend to Wright.

It's not rocket science. He's saying: we're all angry, we've all been screwed over and, because of it, we've often screwed over each other and ourselves. Until we recognize it, we won't be able to fix it.
