Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who thinks
James Carville is a decent guy.

I like him.

I know he's vilified because he's married to Mary Matalin.

But I watched him on Meet the Press yesterday, and he defended Obama, and he agreed that Bill Clinton should keep his mouth closed about Hillary's Bosnia trip.

He blasted the war and talked about high gas prices.

I just have the fondest of memories of him speaking out back in the day when the Republicans were destroying -- or attempting to destroy -- Bill Clinton over MonicaGate.

I know people are going to imply he's a secret Republican agent because he's married to Matalin.

And I don't agree with everything he says -- but I like having him on our side.

I do.

I watched Meet The Press yesterday, and he is a Democrat.

And I love and admire his loyalty.

But you feel free to hate him, just like you hate Hillary Clinton.

Hate hate hate.

It's a free a country.

1. Well good for you?
I don't like him becuase he's an idiot and he trashed Dean AFTER the 51-state strategy proved Carville & McAuliffe's failed stratagy was ready for the dustbin of history.

17. Oh, it must be true if you capitalized the word "are."
Obama supporters enjoy composing comebacks.

Articulating in detail why they disagree with a topic? Mmmmm, not so much.

25. Spider, are you suggesting Carville is different than
everyone else in his profession?

You make it sound like other strategists are humanitarians in relation.

That can't be what you mean....can it?

13. No, what she be on LBN is Obama apologizing about
allowing Donnie McClurkin to go on an anti-gay rant at a campaign fundraiser.

He did apologize, right?

11. For just a starter, you might want to watch the documentary "Our Brand in Crisis"
You might see the side of James Carville you don't want to see.

What Carville did in Bolivia was evil.

12. I'm pretty much with you. I still like him, but two things are hurting him in my eyes
Calling Bill Richardson Judas was one. The second was trashing the 50 state strategy.

He's still cool, but he has flaws (cameo appearance in Old School, notwithstanding).

15. It sounds like there's more about Richardson than we're
both aware.

That was, shall we say, a strong thing for Carville to say...

Yet yesterday on MTP, he refused to back down.

In fact, he seemed happy to reiterate.

Something is going on.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24093054/page/7/

MR. RUSSERT: James Carville, since you were last on you made a little news.

MR. CARVILLE: I did.

MR. RUSSERT: When Bill Richardson endorsed Barack Obama, you offered this comment: "An act of betrayal. ... Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic."

Bill Richardson has now responded. "Carville and others say that I owe President Clinton's wife my endorsement because he gave me two jobs. Would someone who worked for Carville then owe his wife, Mary Matalin, similar loyalty in her professional pursuits? ... And while I was truly torn for weeks about this decision and seriously contemplated endorsing Senator Clinton, I never told anyone, including President Clinton, that I would do so. Those who say I did are misinformed or worse."

MR. CARVILLE: Well, first of all, I, I, I did say that and the reporter had--I was a little disappointed, it was like "graph 7." I was expecting it to be a little higher in the story.

MR. RUSSERT: You were quoted accurately?

MR. CARVILLE: Yes, sir. In...

MR. RUSSERT: And in context?

MR. CARVILLE: In context and, and, and, and also, I'm very happy that I said it. And--but I, I could say any number of things. I know what happened, I know what representations were made to President Clinton when Governor Richardson begged him to go watch the Super Bowl to him. I gave names of fundraisers that he told things to. I'll, I'll let this go. I'm glad I said it. Governor Richardson knows that know the truth. He knows the truth in all of this, and he's made his decision. By the way, I have never criticized a Senator Obama supporter. Bobby Casey, who I campaigned for six times, who, who I revered his father, that's his business. I said he was an honorable man. He made a decision he thought was in the best interest of this country. Senator, Senator Kennedy, Senator Kerry, Senator Daschle, Rosa DeLauro, all these people. I thought this was a special case that merited special attention. I gave it special attention, and I'm glad I did.

24. This kind of stuff is partly why I'm somewhat disenchanted with our process
I've been to a couple of "insider" events recently which include the CA state Dem convention and an Obama delegate caucus. There's so much behind the scenes horse-trading that has nothing to do with issues. It's all interpersonal power trips and favor giving. As someone who is looking to increase his activism, it's a bit of a turn off to see so much stuff having to do with things that I don't care about.

16. The Judas thing pissed me off.
And I admit that I've got a soft spot for Carville. But he's part of a political machine that has zero problem with kicking their own loyalists to the curb whenever it suits their own short-term political needs. Loyalty is a two-way street.

23. I have always liked Carville's politics.
However, I lost a good deal of respect for him after the crap he pulled in Ohio in 2004. That was the tipping point.

He was expectedly loyal to Clinton, but showed true Democratic blood by not letting the Repubs go overboard in their Obama bashing. Many may have a bone or two to pick with him, but in the end he's a Dem and will solidly support and push for a Dem.
