7. I like Garfield. Sue me.
Okay, so it has gotten pretty lame as of late. Still that orange cat is a part of my youth, and I will defend him to the death.

And Bill Waterston, while a very talented cartoonist, was a snarky a-hole.

17. Meh. I like "The Man Show" no matter what some folks here say...
So I guess liking "bad humor" is a matter of taste.

10. I'm partial to "Garfield Minus Garfield"
"Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb."

5. Anyone think Frazz looks like a grown-up Calvin?
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 10:18 AM by yodermon

http://www.comics.com/comics/frazz/

on edit: Bwah! i swear i posted that before i read this wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frazz#Controversy
Because of Frazz's physical, and occasionally spiritual, similarity to Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes, speculation has arisen that Mallett has created an unofficial and unauthorized sequel to Bill Watterson's classic strip, and that Frazz is actually Calvin as an adult. Some other characters that are similar are Miss Wormwood and Rosalyn in Watterson's strip to Mrs. Olsen and Miss Plainwell in Mallett's strip. Mallett denies this, and has alluded to the controversy several times in the strip, including developing a ball game for Frazz and Caulfield that is modeled on "Calvinball."

23. So many of Calvin's lines sound just like Bu**sh** ...
it's hard to believe this strip wasn't modeled after the Bu**sh** maladministration.

26. For Christmas last year I got the 3 Book hardcover
Calvin and Hobbes complete collection. Best present I ever got. Now my kids also know the magic of C&H and the strip is often the center of discussion at dinner. I really miss all of Calvins um... Snowmen.

I've still got his last strip still on my refrigerator and an amazing Sunday strip where Calvin and Hobbes are shown 3 times in one big panel barreling down hill in a forest in their little red wagon. At the beginning as they're going down the hill Hobbes says: "Well Summer is almost over isn't it" and Calvin says "Yep". At the center of the picture they're airborne, their hair is blown back, smiling and holding on tight. On the right side of the panel they're flying off into the distance as Hobbes says: "There's never enough time to do all the nothin' you want".

Slate put together lots of classic C&H daily strips like these..

There is a link at the bottom of the story. Enjoy.

I hope that Bill Catterson is enjoying a very happy retirement. Calvin and Hobbes started my day for years and years. After Catterson retired I dropped my newspaper subscription.

29. Just a correction
Bill Watterson was the Calvin and Hobbes creator/author and writer.

But it still remains in my opinion the best Sunday morning comic strip ever. As the other poster said, it was incredibly how insightful, satirical, and intelligent a few boxes with a kid and his stuffed tiger could be.
