Hillary's Biggest Mistake with Bittergate was focusing on the Bitter part First
If they had focused on the more controversial part, being the "cling" part, she could have had a lot more mileage with this issue. Instead she focused on the less controversial "bitter" part, with such things as the "I'm not Bitter" stickers, or saying that people in PA are Optomistic. If this had originally framed at Clingate, this could have been much more damaging.

I was taught a rule by my grandma a long time ago.

If you always gripe and complain and say negative things, people will think negatively of you. Even if your criticism is right. Even if you have a point. You cannot constantly say negative things and come off as a positive person.

Conversely, Obama says positive things about himself and only defends himself from her attacks. He doesn't wallow in negativety and thus, his campaign takes a lsight ding, but with each negative attack her campaign sinkgs lower and looks more desperate.

You must say positive things about yourself more than you say negative things about others.
