I recall Reagan's second term...it was not a pretty sight, and McCain has all of the signs of the same.

McCain served his nation well and honorably as a soldier. He went through a Hellish ordeal. This was 40 years ago.

He rose with the Reagan revolution of 1980, and has served in the Legislature for almost 30 years.

His ideas are rooted in the cold war and the social excesses of the 70s. He believes the solutions of 10, 20, and 30 years ago will solve the problems of today.

He clings to victory in Iraq as many in his generation do -- because losing another Vietnam, to them, is an unthinkable, unspeakable shame. He clings to victory in Iraq because he, like many conservatives, sees our loss in Vietnam as a failure of will and a failure of character -- not simply misguided foreign policy. If we simply believe in the war, and clap our hands, we can save Iraq -- like Tinkerbell in the stage version of Peter Pan.

John McCain is an old man with old ideas, and both are tired.
