Senator Obama defends Senator Clinton against charge that 'elitisim' = 'uppity'
At Washington, PA town hall meeting Senator Obama defended his opponent from the charge that harping on the word 'elitist' was really a subconcious attempt to paint the senator as 'uppity'. Senator Obama dismissed the insinuation and took the high road saying it was only politics.

Barack Obama dismissed a voter’s suggestion that his presidential rival Hillary Clinton bordered on prejudice by calling him “elitist.”

At the town hall meeting, an audience member said he was angry at Clinton’s suggestion that Obama’s comments were elitist.

“As a white person, this term, the way it’s being used against you, it isn’t far from ’uppity,’ ” the man said. “I think the Clintons are getting away with something that they must be called on. They will continue to do it until somebody states, ‘Mrs. Clinton, you are really close to prejudice here.’ ”

But Obama said he didn’t believe race played a role in Clinton’s strategy.

The New York senator accused Obama of being “elitist” and has launched a barrage of attacks, culminating in the debut of an ad campaign in Pennsylvania yesterday that shows a handful of voters saying they were insulted by what he said.

“It’s politics,” the Democratic presidential candidate told a town hall meeting on veterans affairs yesterday. “This is what we do politically, when we start getting behind in races. We start going on the attack.”

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep Barney Frank (D-Newton) yesterday urged the candidate who trails in the Democratic presidential nomination race after the June 3 primaries in Montana and South Dakota to drop out.

“Possibly sooner,” said Frank, adding that applies even if it’s Clinton, whom he is backing.

Poll shows Obama gaining, holding steady in key states
Posted: 10:24 PM ET

A new poll shows good news for Obama.
(CNN) — Despite a weekend of negative coverage following his controversial remarks about some small town Americans, Barack Obama appears to be holding steady or making gains in the next three primary states, according to a just released poll.

Most surprisingly, the new LA Times/Bloomberg poll shows Obama ahead of Hillary Clinton by 5 points in Indiana (40 to 35 percent), a state with demographics that favor the New York senator and one where other recent polls have shown her with a lead.

The poll also shows Clinton only holds a 5 point lead in Pennsylvania (48 to 43 percent). That margin is among the slimmest measured between to the two candidates and is significantly less than the double digit lead Clinton held there two weeks ago.

1. Obama has conducted himself as a gentleman and with class
throughout the entire campaign, regardless of what's thrown at him. Kind of like I'd like my President to be. :7

And...he is not faking it. Whatever drives him inside, IMO, is the real thing. He is a genuine article. How refreshing to see this after all the years of watching so many pols pander.

14. This is smart of him
I'm too lazy to make a thread abou it, but there is an interesting profile of Cindy McCain in the LA Times.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-cindy16apr16,0,3166798,full.story

I'm not sure if this qualifies as "regretting" that she took aim at Michelle Obama for the "proud of my country remarks", but she did say-"It just spilled out of my mouth, and then I got back on the bus and I thought . . . 'Oh, I should never have opened my mouth."

It's also interesting that she declines to say whether or not she has doubts about the Iraq war, and says she
"leaves those decisions" to her husband and "the men and women who know it better and understand it better."

Cindy McCain's ok...for a recipe thief! Haha, I thought that whole story was pretty stupid

30. Yes, I know.
I think that part of the reason why Cindy is pretty quiet on the campaign trail is that she is still really hurt by the comments that were made about her from Karl Rove and Company when John McCain first ran for president, I can't fault her with that.

My favorite thing about Cindy McCain is that she used to be a rodeo queen. It's almost too campy to be true.

This should give Hillbots something to chew on when they accuse Obama and his supporters of "playing the race card" all the time. He's taking the high road, something Hillary couldn't do if her life depended on it.

39. Unlike his supporters, who just today were still pushing that "uppity" shit.
And swearing on their mothers' graves that the "elitist" charge was the same as throwing the race card.

Obama can stay above the fray ... his supporters do all the dirty work for him.

if I were totally cynical, i would think that he was having his people throw out the meme's to do the damage, but then step in himself to take the higher ground so that he looks that much better...

but I would never think that ever.

32. Hmm. I don't seem to be on a mailing list for the "daily meme". I can think for myself just fine.
... and I think many Obama and Hillary supporters do as well. Sadly there are MANY from BOTH sides that cannot see a single flaw or fault in their candidate and are incapable of logic or reason. this is truly a travesty. If people can't think for themselves, they shouldn't just be parroting back what some talking head says.

But like I said, all this will be irrelevant soon. I can't WAIT until we can all begin to patch things up, re-unify, and begin the REAL work of electing a Democrat. It's long overdue.

He could have said, "Of course race didn't play a role in Clinton’s strategy, not as far as I know."
But he didn't, and that's what sets him apart from the others.
