Every Four Years The Media Falls for the Same GOP Scam
By Cenk Uygur

This year the leading Democratic candidate has been charged with being an "elitist." What surprise! That's what they're charged with every four years http://www.theyoungturks.com/story/2008/4/15/12379/3438/Diary/It-s-Impossible-to-be-Proud-of-the-Way-Hillary-Has-Run-This-Campaign . George W. Bush went to Andover, Yale and Harvard, his dad was president and he had everything in his life handed to him on a silver platter and the media said his opponents were elitists and he was an average Joe. Why do they keep falling for this same crap every time? Are they this stupid or are they complicit?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=119483&mesg_id=119483

We also discussed who is more elitist between the different campaigns here (warning: some strong language) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x119488 . I know it was Hillary Clinton who originally brought up this elitist charge this time, but then again it's hard to separate her from a Republican these days, as I explain in this video (also some strong language) http://youtube.com/watch?v=fJJk7H-TSRk .

2. The M$M is part of the scam
Gladly taking their cut of your donations for ads when the winner is pretty much a done deal already.

TV is just a new twist on the second oldest scam ever.

3. "falls for" is way too passive.
The MSM eagerly jumps into the pit at the bidding of its corporate masters. They have expensive wives cars and houses to pay off. They know what the rules are. The rules are "jump when ordered", there are no questions.

4. Eh, it depends
In some cases yes, I completely agree. Other times, I really think they get so caught up in the Washington Bubble that they don't know any better.

I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to suggest that every single one of them is laughing all the way to the bank in a smoke filled room. A lot of it is far more subtle anyway. I'm not talking about Fox News (blatantly conservative from the top down) or the Glenn Beck's and Scarborough's of the world.

I'm talking about so called "moderates" like Matthews, David Gregory, etc. They more often than not accept Republican framing of issues, but again, I don't think they are explicitly told to do so. I mean, they don't even HAVE to be told, they'll do it anyway because they're terrified of being called liberal. While the outcome may end up the same, the motive is a little different.

12. Very well said!
That is a more balanced and realistic view to me. Many of them ARE out to get us but some of them are just caught up in Washington and scared of the myth of liberal bias.

6. The media does not "fall for" it...
They are part of the scam, the major part. They have Republicans to help try and keep their hands clean.

7. Anyone who attributes naïveté to Big Media is making a stupid mistake
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 11:02 AM by kenny blankenship
There are, to be sure, VAST areas in the sciences and humanities (outside the subject of hair products and trendy clothing) of which the Big Electronic Media are shockingly and blithely ignorant, from the VPs down to the Producers down to the Talking Heads. But when it comes to politics, they know EXACTLY what they are doing, and exactly what they are supposed to be doing. They ignore the truth and as far as possible all facts that may lead to the truth. They promote the mythologies of a benevolent, all-providing, all-wise capitalist order. And within the basic limitations imposed by the gargantuan task of perpetually lying to millions of people--almost all of whom know on some level that they are being lied to--the Big Media do a very solid credible job of creating a seamless, fact-free inverted & backwards illusion of the real world.

8. It's hard to tell sometimes if they're electing Republicans or selling soap
If they want to sell soap, the GOP's sexcapaes will sell more than an arcane argument about who's elite and why elite is a dirty word.

9. The Media Does the Bidding of its Repiglickin OWNERS
It has nothing to do with ratings, and everything to do with using the giant megaphone of the MSM to further the interests of its parent corporations.
Jack Welch (former CEO of GE) even said as much at the time GE bought NBC.

10. Thank you Hillary
You have run a great GOP campaign against Obama. You are demonstrating the ineffectiveness of the typical right wing attacks against Obama. You are losing to Obama.

Don't be bitter in your loss. Just accept our thanks.

14. David Gregory, in particular, is a shameless basher of Obama.
I was listening to WTOP radio (Washington D.C.) where ole Mr. Wonderful was commenting that Obama's comments WOULD HURT HIM. Well, even the corporate announcer responded, "But after all was explained, in context, what Obama said was not all that bad because his poll numbers are up?" To wish Gregory refuted with, "Well, it's still way to early to tell if his comments will have an effect."

I RESENT David Gregory even more that Joey the Scar (Joe Scarborough). With "Morning Joe" we know that he's a biased right wing republican.

David Gregory may not be a Republican but IMO, he's a first class media whore for the Power Elites within the beltway. :puke:

16. It's part of a one-two punch. First it's "elitist" and then it's "character issues".
Challenge: name the last Democratic nominee not attacked over trumped up & utterly baseless "character issues."
