While I do not equate Clinton with the Master of Disaster (MoD) by ANY means, I do see enough similarities to give me pause. First is Clinton's penchant for secrecy (yeah, given the treatment she's gotten, I can understand the impulse - it's STILL not good), which, coming on the heels of the most secretive administration I can recall, does not fill me with hope for improvement.
Second is her noted tendency to value personal connection over competence, as has been evidenced by her senior campaign staff. Let's face it - there is NO WAY she should be behind Obama at this point, given the edge she had going in. This also bothers me - would such problems also crop up in a H. Clinton White House as they have in the MoD's?
As to Obama = Progressive Reagan:
Just as Reagan was able to persuade the public to his agenda back in the 80's, I see Obama being just as effective (note: I DID NOT SAY Reagan was good - I say he was EFFECTIVE)in taking a Progressive agenda to the public as reagan was at selling the conservative agenda. His charisma is similar to that of Reagan (and if you don't think he had any, take off your partisan blinders - he had LOADS. How else do you explain his "teflon", and huge victories?), and we are at a similar moment in history. In 1980, liberalism was popularly perceived as having overreached and exhausted itself. Along comes Reagan, a charismatic, engaging speaker with a "fresh" take on the conservative agenda, offering a strong, confident vision of America when liberals had been talking about "malaise" and "lowered expectations". For the right, Reagan was the correct man at the correct time.
Now, in 2008, conservatism is seen to have overreached, having no fresh ideas, having no vision save "there are gonna be more wars", and offering no solutions to the problems facing the nation here in the early 21st century. A time when 81% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track. Along comes Obama, a charismatic, engaging speaker offering a hopeful, positive vision for America, speaking to those disempowered (if there's such a word) and offering them the seat at the table they've been denied, and telling them "Yes, We Can!" while the GOP is telling them they can't do any better. At this point in history, for the left, (hell, for the NATION)Obama is also the correct person at the correct time.
