Here's one big fat scandal which the GOP are sitting on in hopes that HRC is the Dem candidate.
Chelsea is rumored, in both London and NYC, to be engaged to her boy-friend, Mark Mezvinsky. ABC covered this last December, but I missed it then, and the GOP's not pushing it now - saving it for later.
Mark's father is former congressman, Ed Mezvinsky, who initially pled innocent by reason of insanity, but later pled guilty to 31 of 69 fraud-related counts. On Sept. 27,2002, he admitted that he bilked investors who handed over more than $10 million, including friends, law clients and even his late mother-in-law, and was sentenced to nearly 7 years in prison. Some try to paint this as though he was the victim of scams. It started out that way, with him losing his own money - but then he kept doubling down and losing money of any one he could talk into "investing" with him.
FIRST: Are they engaged? Or about to be? Perhaps putting off announcing it while it could hurt "Mom's" campaign?

If the gossips are to be believed and Chelsea Clinton is indeed engaged to Goldman Sachs banker Marc Mezvinsky, then we can expect a sighting around the Shake Shack in the near future. A source says Mezvinsky, who according to some reports has been friends with the former First Daughter since the two were teens, has bought a 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom condo in the Flatiron district that’s priced at about $3.8 million. Mezvinsky, the son of former Iowa congressman (and current incarcerated felon) Edward Mezvinsky, apparently toured the place with Clinton, suggesting that he sought her approval before signing off on the purchase. Assuming the deal goes through, it would end what appears to have been a protracted search on Mezvinsky’s part; a source claims the two toured various downtown properties last fall. As for Chelsea herself, at present she lives a few blocks away, somewhere in the vicinity of Gramercy Park.

(Say voters, isn't that special? A $3.8 MILLION little starter apt. for the young couple? Does the word "elite" spring to mind???)
SECOND: How close were the Clintons and the Mezvinskys? Marc interned in Clinton's White House. So he was at Ground Zero for the whole Lewinsky/impeachment scandal - and with his own father in prison, easy to see that Chelsea would feel comfortable with him - he wouldn't be judgmental of HER parents.

(I can't fit the whole link's cite in here. Go to what I have and enter "Mezvinsky" into their search function. It will link to this article.)
"He boasted to many victims for example, of a close personal relationship with President and Mrs. Clinton andof his son's friendship with Chelsea Clinton at Stanford University," Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Zauzmer wrote in the 133 page plea agreement.

Even here, there is potential embarrassment. Miss Clinton's boyfriend - and soon-to-be-husband, if the tabloids are to be believed - is Marc Mezvinsky, 29, a former intern in her father's White House who now works for Goldman Sachs.
His parents were also Democratic politicians and family friends of the Clintons, but Mr Mezvinsky's father Ed, a former congressman, is serving six years in jail for fraud offences he committed to recoup losses in a Nigerian scam.
Given that the Clintons were dogged by allegations of financial impropriety over the Whitewater land deal, IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT SEN CLINTON'S FOES WILL REFRAIN FROM MAKING CAPITAL OF THE FACT THAT HER DAUGHTER'S PROSPECTIVE FATHER-IN-LAW IS BEHIND BARS FOR FRAUD. (my emphasis added)
Sen Clinton's brother, Tony Rodham, also faces financial and legal trouble, accused of failing to repay $107,000 (£54,600) in loans from a carnival company whose owners received pardons from Mr Clinton when he was president."
THIRD: So where is Ed Mezvinsky now? Serving time or about to be released? In either case, out in time to attend a glorious White House wedding and spend time in the Lincoln Bedroom. Maybe Bill can hire him for a highpaying job with the Clinton Foundation.
According to Wikipedia, he was scheduled for release on April 12, 2008.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_MezvinskyMezvinsky unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for United States Senate from Pennsylvania in 1980, losing to Peter F. Flaherty. He then became chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee before making a failed run for state attorney general in 1988. He won the Democratic primary, but lost to Republican Ernie Preate in the general election. He also unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor in 1990, losing to incumbent Mark Singel.
In March 2001, Mezvinsky was indicted and later pleaded guilty to 31 of 69 charges of bank fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud. Nearly $10 million was involved in the crimes. According to the BOP's Inmate Locator he is due to be released from federal prison on April 12, 2008<1>.
However, another site says he is scheduled for release in November of 2008
http://congressionalbadboys.com/Mezvinsky.htmEdward M. Mezvinsky
Democrat, Iowa (1973-1976)
"The Honorable Edward M. Mezvinsky, was a back-bencher Congressman from Iowa for two terms. His biggest claim to fame was that he was on the House Judiciary Committee when it voted to impeach Nixon in 1974. In all fairness to Iowans, he didn't do anything wrong while a congressman. That came later when he was in Pennsylvania. Later, he was prosecuted for soliciting cash for fraudulent pyramid schemes in the 1980s. He collected millions of dollars for business deals that never materialized, including an oil deal, a coin trading company, and efforts to sell bracelets in Africa. Mezvinsky even fell victim to several Nigerian investment scams and lost much of the money he had borrowed.
The Jailbird Count: six years in prison for defrauding business associates, friends and family; pleaded guilty to 31 counts of fraud. Scheduled release: November 2008
Stalled career: Mezvinsky's wife, Marjorie Margolis-Mezvinsky, a former television reporter, served a term in Congress, then ran unsuccessfully for Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor, then dropped out of the 2000 Pennsylvania Senate race.
The Chelsea Clinton connection: Chelsea's current squeeze is 27-year-old New York banker Marc Mezvinsky, son of BadBoy Ed and Marjorie."
