Does my atheism get in the way
All the candidates seem to feel they have to prove that they are Jesus Christ's best friend. Not to offend people of faith, but why does this always now have to be of such importance when compared to what I personally consider "real" issues. I don't care about other peoples beliefs. I care about how they live their lives regarding others, and whether or not they appear to support helping others in need.

Just saying one is a person "of belief" means absolutely nothing to me.

Am I being unfair?

1. Of course not...
I used to rub shoulders with some bigwigs in American Atheists. They knew I was a Christian, and I knew they were atheists, and we were perfectly cool with each other.

But alas, the rest of society is still trying to catch up to this level of tolerance and, dare I say it, goodwill. It's going to take some time.

2. No.
Injecting religion as a valid topic of conversation in politics has become more and more prevalent as our society is conditioned to hate intellectualism in general and science in particular.

How many morans on the boob tube laugh about how hard math is? This serves no purpose other than to make it easier for another Author Anderson-Enron scandal to occur.

How many morans claim that politics is a job so easy anyone can do it? This serves no purpose other than to keep GOPers employed.

Proclaiming one's allegiance to a god, or any of his children, only serves to perpetuate superstition. It negates debate, free will and reasonable discussion.

Religion has no place in the public sphere, IMHO.

3. I can go further...
we atheists have more real things to say about morality, ethics, abortion, etc because our judgement is not clouded by mythology.

How's that for elitist? :)

4. Its all just political pandering
to a majority of people too scared to answer a poll honestly.

Are you religious? YES

Do you live life according to the values of said religion? I'll get back to you.....

Atheism just cuts through the bullshit faster.
