on Morning joe: "Democrats need to love USA as is"
Did anyone watch Morning Joe this morning? It was the typical DC ass kissing business, but it's always fun noting. Joe, Mika, Chris Matthews, and Tim Russert were at the Washington Correspondent dinner last night ,and after gushing about hobnobbing with the Repubs and how HILARIOUS Mitt Romney and Dick Cheney were, they of course pivot to the Elitism discussion. Chris Matthews said that the flag pin is a huge issue for people with Obama, because they are not quite sure yet if he is "one of them". And then he said "All of Them, the Elites (Ok, just say it Chris. Democrats) have this problem." Then he said that it is important to put your hand over your heart, because people love their country and it's all they have. Then he said "Hillary Clinton said that she (roughly phrasing it, I'm pretty sure this is what he said) pledges allegiance to the flag of what the country CAN BE. But people need to know that these people love their country now." Blah Blah Blah, Democrats are snobs, blah blah. "Reagan was popular because he LOVED his country."

and then Joe Scarborough said that at the Republican convention, when "Proud to Be an American" plays , all of the Republicans have tears in their eyes because they LOVE THEIR COUNTRY.

Typical bullshit, but always makes me angry when I see it. Because that is what politics has become, a patriotic pissing contest.

12. I love how he keeps quoting "Leroy" - some "regular guy" he worked with 35 years ago
Probably the last "reguar guy" he's interacted with since then.

13. after 8 years, even the general public seems to have figured it out
that the MSM can't be trusted - after all, look at where we are
and what the MSM is doing/saying about it.

MSM has jumped the shark, and hasn't figured it out.

People have access to other better media.

4. I love my children. That's why I never criticize them when they do something wrong.
To point out any wrong that they do would mean I am a bad parent and don't love my children. So if they start fights with other kids and steal other kids' lunch money, I'll just look the other way.:sarcasm:

5. I can't stand that sanctimonious sack of....
shit. He constantly interrupts everyone on the panel and talks over his guests with incessant babble regarding his delusional notion of self importance. His attempt at humor is so lame it makes me queasy.
Why is this asshat on the air? Surely nbc could scrape the bottom of the barrel and find somebody, anybody better than this jerk.

, but he made a good point a couple of months ago when that cell phone footage of the white house dinner where Bush was singing about Scooter Libby and everyone was roaring (Chris Matthews had mentioned it on his show too, but I get more of the sense that he was just pissed that he wasn't invited or something.) He was talking to Rachel Maddow and they were discussing if it is a conflict of interest for journalists to be partying with the president and all of the DC cronies, if it compromises their integrity at all. Rachel Maddow was like "Well, "Shockingly", I've never been invited to one!", and they were basically talking about how this helps Bush because these are the same people (the media) who helped us get into war, etc. After they talked about it, I noticed that Andrea Mitchell and Tim Russert were among those who were at the White House dinner in question. The "journalists" who have integrity in terms of "reputation" with MSNBC are probably like , Andrea Mitchell, Tim Russert, David Gregory, etc. Even when David Gregory asked Bush some tough questions recently..it's like his show was based on the premise of that. "HE DOESN'T BACK DOWN FROM THE HARD QUESTIONS." How many of the commercials with that clip did we have to see before the Race to the Whitehouse premiered? But we all know about him and MC Rove. I always get pissed off when the self-congratulatory voice over commercials for MSNBC come on, and Tim Russert says "It's about the issues. The Economy, etc." I'm always like "Yeah, the things that MSNBC never covers!" As much as CNN is just as bad, I think that they at least "pretend" to cover some issues more than MSNBC.

10. You are very astute, welcome to DU!
I have been thinking for a long time that, for the MSNBC wing of the media, it's not about the news, it's about who is doing the coverage. I think they all keep score of how much they are able to influence events to their way of thinking. While I don't think that Matthews is as anti-Obama as Scarborough or Buchanan, I do think that his main interest is in prolonging the primary season. And the way to do that right now is to hammer Obama and project an "inevitability" of Clinton winning in PA. I've been sick of Chris Matthews for so long that I would probably be backing Obama for that reason alone, if I wasn't already decided for him.

I'm not being as clear as I would like to be, but I know everyone gets the point I'm trying to make. Another interesting thing about MSNBC- Dan Abrams, while I don't always agree with him, always calls out the media for their bullshit, he seems to do it pretty equally between all of the candidates. But when he talks about the "inside DC media", he is talking about MSNBC, and he used to be the General Manager for the channel. Sometimes I think having a legal background as opposed to a "political" backround hinders his understanding of some issues, but in another way I think it allows him to have a more objective perspective.

16. Dan rocks-he always calls out the insdier media for the utter bs they try to pass as news
Dan, Keith, and Rachel are about the only reason I even watch any cable news at all. They are the only ones who don't kiss the asses of Bush and Co. and now of course McCain. He is soooo funny on American Idol...ha ha ha. Meanwhile he sings about bombing Iran as a joke. The man is out of his mind and he gets a free pass all the time. Meanwhile Chris, Joe, and Pat (why is this racist xenophobe even on anymore?) crucify Obama for not wearing a stupid lapel pin for Godsakes! I won't even talk about CNN or Fox-they are even worse. This has been happening every presidential election since 2000. In 2000 it was Gore wears earth tones and lied about the internet and Love Story...oh my God! 2004 it was Kerry windsurfs and swiftboating. Can we talk about how screwed up the country is, the real issues that matter? Cable news loves tabloid like distractions. Its terrible. Utter crap. Where are the stories about healthcare, where is Iraq, where are the stories about how the Chinese own our debts? I just don't get it. I give up.

8. You deserve a K&R for this.
The "patriotic pissing contest" is just pathetic. Sometimes I call it "the America high". Our country has been trained since Reagan to vote for the candidate that gives them the biggest America high. The TV news media love it because they're in the emotion business, and TV can't follow policy discussions well. So everything gets dumbed down to patriotic pandering, and we end up with Presidents like GWB.

15. I saw the dinner last night. I stayed up until midnight to watch it.
And the reason I watched it was because I wanted to see how republicans were going to act and what they would say. And true to nature they didn't disappoint me. Cheney, Romney and the rest were asses. They took shots at Clinton, Obama, and anyone else that's a democrat. It was sickening to see folks like Rove et al running free when they should be in jail. And then to see them make jokes about our candidates and our way of life I found very disheartening. The point I'm making is, when you think you hate Clinton or you hate Obama, which I think people have felt, watch something like that and it puts things into perspective and it grounds us as to what we are all about. I had thought at times, if Hillary isn't the nominee I'll just write her name in on the ballot but after watching that dinner it brought me back to my senses. Who ever is the nominee, we need to vote for him/her.

17. seriously !
I'm an Obama supporter, and I've been having the same thoughts about Clinton...and then I catch myself and say "What the hell am I thinking? President John McCain?"

It's also so funny how the MSM will say of both Clinton and Obama "Well, you know that the Republicans will make an issue of it." I wish someone could call them out and be like "And the media is completely complicit in allowing them to do so, as they did four years ago with John Kerry. Look where it got us?"

I guess I mostly watch Morning Joe for the guests now, did anyone catch when a someone (Ok, I feel like an ass for not remember who this "someone" was, I think it was a famous writer and activist, but I forget which one. Morning Joe kind of makes my brain bleed it all together) said to Mika "And why aren't you reporting more on John McCain and the gaffes that he is making?" and Mika got defensive and said "Hey, I call the McCain campaign every week!" and the writer said "Do better than that. Call them every day. It's your job, as a journalist."

18. One DU'er thinks she needs a clothespin and getting drunk to vote for Hillary.
All I have to do is mutter the magic words "Supreme Court" and my hand will automatically fill in the oval next to Barack's name if he's the nominee.

Ack. The things we have to do as we try to save America. :D
