My first OP in GDP, and probably my last
I see that the talk is all about last night's "debate". What I find most interesting is this: The Clinton supporters are gleeful because the tables were turned and it was Obama's turn in the "woodshed". I saw a comment here last night from a Clinton supporter that talked about the very good answers Hillary gave on the questions of any substance (you know, the last five minutes of the thing). I have to agree, she gave some good answers. I thought Obama did too but I guess I am wierd by DU GDP standards in that I can see good stuff in both Dem candidates.

Anyhow, what I think we should all be agreeing on is the fact that both of our candidates only had the tail end of this thing to get to present their ideas and views on important stuff. ABC set up our candidates to tear each other down and talk about stuff that doesn't matter.

It seems to me this should have been a great opportunity for our candidates to show a different perspective of things to all the world, different than the neo-con all-is-dark-and-scary view, and for the most part it was wasted thanks to the stupid, meaningless questions that were asked for the better part of the "debate".

Yes, once again the corporate media managed to prevent BOTH of our candidates from really shining and showing the world we are the party of GOOD and BENEFICIAL ideas. For this reason alone we DUers should be UNITED against our common enemy, the corporate-ocracy.

Because we know their performance won't be brought up by them, or most other media types.
And I just logged on, so I don't know.

7. I didn't see the debate
but judging from what I read, it was not conducted very well. I think it's going to be hard once the nomination is decided to bring people who didn't support the candidate that won together. It still appears that will be Obama. There are a lot of hardcore Clinton supporters who are going to have to accept Obama as the nominee. I think many of her supporters will back him, but there will be a large group, mainly the ones that hang out on the websites that are advocating bring down Obama at any cost that won't.

20. I don't think that the ones who hang out on websites
will be a deciding factor. In the overall number of voters, there aren't that many people who hang out on websites advocating the downfall of either candidate. Most people don't have time.

I wonder how many people watched the debate. I wonder how many people put any stock in it. Even those who pay less attention to politics are beginning to catch on that TV news have become mostly crap.

I went to a political event last night. It was a dinner to raise money for a county Democratic organization. There were all types of Democrats there, everyone from union blue collar workers to judges and lawyers. There were both Clinton and Obama shirts and buttons worn and displayed. No one fought about things the way they do here and on similar websites. I don't think we are getting good information from either the Internet or the corporate media. I want answers, not an agenda from either side.

27. I agree
and that was a very well reasoned response. I unfortunately get the bulk of my information via the internet because I'm overseas and since we've moved to a different part of the town we live in recently, we aren't able to even get CNN. Most of the time I'm going crazy because I want to stay informed with what's going on.

8. You should post more often...
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 08:11 AM by TwoSparkles
What you said is exactly right.

When I watched the debate, I thought Obama won, hands down. However, I was so disgusted with the
whole thing, because--as you said--the questions were so awful.

It was like watching a debate hosted by "The National Enquirer."

There was barely any substance.

The real crime is against our party--as you said. You said it very eloquently, and I think you've probably
centered in on why this happened. The Republicans are on the wrong side of every issue right now. They
want more war, when America wants to end it. McCain says that the economy isn't his strong suit, while our
economy tanks and Dems have the solutions.

You're right...if the issues were discussed our candidates would shine, and our party as well.

When I see any DUer, full of glee because they perceive that their candidate had a good night--it really creeps
me out. I feel like the puppet masters are succeeding. The needed a nation divided--and they've succeeded with
bitting liberals against conservatives. I think they now see the Democrats as a threat against their neocon
agenda--and they now need the Democratic party divided---and ultimately, weakened.

People who rationalize and turn away from how perverse this debate was---because they THINK their candidate had
a good night--are allowing the neocons and the corporate masters in the media--to control them and pull their
strings.

Please keep posting. You have something positive and insightful to offer.

You know you want to... ;)

9. I am also only dedicated to a Dem in the White House.
I don't care which one it is. I like things about both of them. There are also things I don't like about each of them. I was so disappointed at ABC last night. We really got ripped off. But they are not a friend to the Democratic Party, so it is not surprising. Great post by the way. It is refreshing to see someone who just cares that we win and not really about which one candidate it is. I see good in both too and I refuse to get into the battle between our candidates. I just want a fair fight. My dream is that they will form one nomination with both candidates. Obama has the most delegates, so he should be President. She would make a great VP and they would be an awesome team. I wish they would just unite with each other and thus unite the party.

I see plenty of good in both candidates, too. I prefer Obama but I'll work to elect Hillary if she's the nominee (not that I think she will be, but you never know.)

And yeah, the corporate media continues to suck, and continues to play up the horse-race BS, because it's in their interest to make this thing as drawn out and ugly and stupid as possible.

23. What a great post, I hope it's not your last. As a Clinton supporter, I've been perusing the
threads here today. Yours is the best I've read, so far, and thank you for that.

I thought she did extremely well and I say that knowing I might, yet again, be called a troll, sock puppet or scum, which are all names which have been leveled at me here on DU for expressing my support for her candidacy. Not to mention the slurs using her name and an insulting suffix.

Those Sen. Obama supporters, here on DU, who attack me for supporting her have their own issues, and I don't equate them with the Senator from Illinois, who is an impressive guy, albeit, still on his campaign learning curve as we saw last night. I've said multiple times I won't hesitate to vote for him and I mean it.

Although I won't campaigning at all for him, just because I can't see working side by side with those who previously called me a "Clintonista Ho" and other delightful names, all for supporting a Democratic candidate.

And, the "debate", if you can call it that, was an absolute travesty, and a sneak preview of coming attractions from the MSM once we have a nominee. They will only continue to be more and more unfair to the Democratic candidates and then to the GE nominee. We need to be working hard to get the House and Senate with solid Dem majorities and keep our wits about us during the next few months.

Thanks again for such a good post.

:toast:

You cite one of the reasons I don't hang out here in GDP too much. It pains me greatly to see DUers alienating each other when we need all hands on deck for the GE! The short-sightedness by some during this primary season is creating wounds that will take too long to heal.

I hope if you aren't very active in the GE Pres. race you'll jump into a Congressional campaign or one that's more local. They'd be grateful, I'm sure!

30. Thanks, and you read my mind!
I am currently very actively involved in a local HD race, plus we have to make sure that our junior US Senator is a Democrat and not the most pukeworthy Bob Schaeffer. :puke:

That's where my focus, energy, time and money will go if Sen. Obama is our nominee. If Sen. Clinton is our nominee, I'll probably split it 50/50. :-)

I appreciate the kind words, they've been a bit few and far between here, lately, for those who continue to support the Senator from New York.

I'm a media person. I also have a memory. I myself did not see the debate. Why? It was on ABC, a network that many households have been boycotting for a long time now. They are pro-GOP. Anti-Democratic. Sorry, but no one should be a Democrat and tune into ABC, ever.
Why anyone watched this I just don't know. ABC is GOP. Worse it is Bushco. Are you guys also suprised when a duck quacks or a dog barks?

I don't watch corporate news either, they all suck IMO. I very occassionally watch KO and think the Daily Show is the best news show on TV.

I tuned in last night really with the hopes of hearing our candidates share their ideas, I hadn't expected it to be as bad as it was.

33. I have remained out of the fray these last several months strictly because
the ignorance during these troubled times electing our front runner has a tendency to steer even the brightest minds way off tract in keeping focus on what is truly important regarding our nations political agenda's..

But I had to log in because your post shines through from the hundreds of mind numbing bashing posts shone brightly enough to catch my attention enough to ensure your thread is acknowledged and perhaps doesn't get completely lost in the melee of child like squabbles that have erupted in regards to certain personal candidate choices..

Suffice it to say that I found your post worth getting another bump to the top...

Too many lose focus on what is the most important which is exactly what the msm is counting on, I wish so many would not fall for it, sadly they do, glad to see not all are so easily swayed off course.
