Stephanopoulos DEFENDS debate! "appropriate questions" what a fool

Stephanopoulos defends debate performance: ‘We asked tough but appropriate questions'

Despite criticism, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos defended his performance in last night’s Democratic debate, which he co-moderated with Charles Gibson.

“We asked tough but appropriate questions,” Stephanopoulos told me by phone this afternoon.

When I asked whether questions about flag pins or Bosnia are actually relevant to voters, he replied: “Absolutely.”

*snip*

This morning, websites like The Huffington Post provided multiple attacks on the debate moderators (The Gotcha Debate), and I asked Stephanopoulos for his reaction to one specific piece of criticism — that of Washington Post critic Tom Shales calling the moderator’s performances “shoddy” and “despicable.”

“I think it just comes with the territory,” Stephanopoulos replied, adding, “I think you’re going to find a wide range of opinions.”

*snip*

Finally, on the repeated shots of Chelsea Clinton on screen — which Stephanopoulos wouldn’t have been responsible for since he was down asking the questions — the moderator said he hadn’t really thought about it.

4. He's a tool and a douche-bag, and another Hillary handmaiden who has....
...destroyed his own credibility in order to rig the debate to favor Hillary.

I just wrote KO and told him that if he has Staphylococcolus on his show again, I'll no longer watch his show.

Staphylococcolus needs to be shunned for the hack he is.

Especially when about 99% of the feedback on ABC's own website is negative.

The fact that he's sticking to his guns proves that he's just another cog in the machine. I hope it's worth it Snuffy, you fucking whore.

A tough but appropriate question.

Noticeably absent from the debate any questions about corporate greed and malfeasance.

32. If they looked at the dem blogs and message boards over the past 6 weeks
all of these questions have been out there.

Obama in an interview commented on the flag pin and said everyone that wears one is faking patriotism (paraphrased from what I remember of it) he made it a 'topic'

This was a Democratic primary debate
Democrats do not choose candidates based on their attitude toward flag pins. Then again, with Hillary deploying so many Republican arguments against Obama (because that's all she has left), you've probably convinced yourself this a legitimate issue for discussion.

35. I agree, the flag pin question is lame, but O made a case out of it
and the media is going to ask him about it

the other questions had not been addressed in the debates, bosnia, wright, elitist, pardons or association of weatherman

there isn't much difference between them on issues, after 20 debates and the past month of various 'gates' what did you expect?

40. Sounds like an argument to pick a nominee and move forward
because when the candidates agree on the issues for the most part, the temptation to focus on nonsense is indeed too hard for a silly-minded media to resist.

31. Asking Obama if Rev. Wright loved America as much as he did -- was "appropriate"?
Why the hell does Little Georgie think the voters need to know how much some preacher in Chicago loves America? Wright isn't a friggin' candidate!!!

For chrissakes, that question was just about as appropriate as asking "Who do like better: Britney or Paris?"

question was so important why they didn't ask Hillary about it since she never wears flag pin and did not have one on last night, and why the two moderators don't wear a flag pin, are the unpatriotic? Why do they hate america?

that he's not going to get any mileage from digging in his feet and defending his and ABC's atrocious conduct.

I think what happens to self-important people- like American pundits- is that they seem to have a sense of entitlement. That makes them deaf to criticism (and, as we've seen so many times before) any accountability for their behavior.

A David Brooks, a Cokie Roberts (not to mention those even further down on the respectability scale) they think that repeated breaches of ethics and lapses of professional responsibility won't cause their careers any ill effects- so why bother?

While times were relatively good- and Americans were tuning out, they've been insulated. Now that times are, shall we say, about to change considerably for the worse, that luxury won't last for long- and the public will turn on them with a vengeance.
